wow, that is fast... thank you for initial responses! thank you!

However still wanted to hear about the Mya's stem being narrower at its tip and more opinions of course.

P.S. Odyssey that I chose will have a bohemian glass vase

I second what Oolatec is saying, go for a Syrian. Socials or J & R, either way its a better rig than the Myas or the SS Egyptians. There are plenty of discussions going on about Syrians vs. Egyptians...

Between SS and JandR, Id personally say JandR because I myself own one and can abide by it. A few people here have also purchased Syrians from SS, but all in all, JandR are hands down the Kings in that category. Just look at the product review section, 4 of the top 5 are for JandR Syrians. That doesn\'t happen on Accident wink.gif

As far as how they compare to Myas or Egyptians, again I think Syrians earns a + vs the Egyptians. I have never smoked out of Myas personally, but my friends own some; QT, Vortex, Gyro, Para-something..and they have all tried my Syrian. The general consensus is the Syrian is much better. Some of the guys from this forum that have bought Syrians also own MYA\'s, again read the product reviews on the Syrians. Most members offer a comparison point somewhere in the review. Good luck

I am with Oolatec on this one. I just bought a Syrian from JandR and it is amazing. Solid brass stem and constructed very well and the base is very thick and sturdy. I dont have a SocialSmoke so I can't speak to much of them but I have heard great things about them also. I own two Myas and I like my new Syrian better than them. Not that they are bad at all. that thing about the stem of a mya being more narrow in the upper part of the stem is true.
but it doesn`t really affect smoke very much, especially not when you put a nammor hose on there.
the overall build quality is very high and long lasting.

Yeah, even though the top of the stem is a bit narrower it will still pull very well. But make sure you want something so tall. I actually like the 2 footer range better. It's all a matter of taste. It's just that with a medium sized hookah you feel more of a direct pull, it's hard to describe. My advice when I don't know which one to get, get both wink.gif

cool.. it seems that an overall love goes to Mya.. and no love for Egyptian hookahs (XX-Large Odyssey).. Some love to Syrians.. and the narrow tip of the stem in Mya does not seem like a big problem (although it does seem true and seems would be better, if it was as thick as its bottom)

Also, I understand if I decide to go with Mya, I am better of getting a 24''-27'' instead of 40''

To summarize, could you suggest any particular Mya (or maybe 40'' is still somehow better besides its look?)

and thank you again!

P.S. Nammor hose seems to have a good flow, but less taste than some Mya hoses (I have both - any comments?)

Couldn't tell you about the Nammor hoses, I was just asking in another thread if it's really worth it.

I have the Mya Bambino. It's a lil shawty, she's about a foot or so tall. It'll get you some monster clouds if you pack it right with the right shisha. laugh.gif

The people who are saying MYA more than likely have not smoked out of a Syrian. They have no other choice but to say MYA. Those who have went to Syrian, won\'t turn back....Just something to think about wink.gif

i have a syrian as well as a mya and i love them both, but the OP asked to choose between the mya and the egyptian oddysey.

I have to reiterate what has already been said.. what is it exactly about syrian hookah's that is such an improvement over Mya? I myself had a Syrian at one point, and I did like it more than my other hookahs, but the base was broken and I have yet to find one similar to it, none of the bases I have replaced it with have really balanced well and seem to result in a more difficult draw. I am actually leaning toward picking up a Mya Gyro (the four hose model), because of the good reviews, so this thread is rather relevant to my interest.

Of course... but some of us want to throw out other pipes as an option as well. IMO, it's a good thing to consider all possibilities. smile.gif

Fundamental difference...I would say: Draw is effortless. Build is stronger. Brass vs. Steel. Option to make larger or smaller by taking or adding pieces. Theres a few here and there. I guess the main gesture is based on quality. Mya has a certain quality to it but at the same time, Syrian do as well. If you want a hookah that will last forever, never fall apart, glass never breaks at the sight of wind, that has an effortless draw, that looks amazing, that has an extremly air tight seal and that will give you a lifetime of enjoyment, get a Syrian. If you want an average to a little above average hookah, that is made from something besides brass that has the potential to fall apart that has the potential to get its vase cracked, than get a MYA. Those of us for a Syrian can talk all the shit we want all day long about a Syrian and those of us that are for MYAs can talk all the shit we want about a MYA. Buy one or the other and you can join the discussion wink.gif

I have had a Syrian, but never a Mya. I think I will be getting the Mya Gyro, I think, for a combination of aesthetics appeal, and the huge clouds I've seen people pull from them, and again the good reviews. I may get another syrian at some point, though. Anyone seen a Syrian that gives the visual appeal of the higher-end Myas a run for their money?
