Is This Rust Or Oxidation In My Hookah?

Put the focus to macro then take a pic. That's waaaaaay too blurry. From what I saw, the pipe is steel. Oxidation of steel IS rusting.

its not clear enough like what the above said. However, just squinting, the color/tone doesnt seem to worry me. Also, if it\'s oxidation, just use a wire/wool pad and scrub it off. I do not believe its corrosive. i read somewhere in an article that oxidation is a natural process in most metals to protect itself...or something to that extent. Best thing to do is gett some steel wool, wrap it around a thin stick (for kabobs?) and scrub away.

ive contacted jimmy but i dont he can help me on this issue. this is gross, the build up wasnt there last time i smoked and magically it is now. the brown stuff is building up and im gonna try to scrub it off, though i have used my brush many times already. though the whole brown layer will for sure not come off.

are the metals in hookah suppose to change color or are they supposed to stay silver?

Steel on Steel cleaning works much better than cleaning brush/steel cleaning.

That probably is rust. As MechAnt said, rust is oxidized metal.

For a number of reasons, metals usually are more likely to rust in a weld.

You've gotten lots of good advice on how to clean it off, just remember to use STAINLESS steel wool or a STAINLESS steel brush to do it with.

They aren't brass so it's rust.

You can't let SS hookahs air-dry, it brings rust on much faster.

If it rusts, that means it wasn't real stainless steel. Its like if your gold chain tarnishes, you know you got ripped off.
