mrconfident
As the title states it, I was acutally denied coals by a hookah lounge owner to continue smoking my bowl any longer at his lounge after a little bit over an hour's worth of smoking...This happened here in San Diego at a place called Egyptian Tea Room. I think these actions were very unnecessary especially knowning the fact that the lounge was completely empty at the time minus us and 3 other people. I cannot believe that the guy would acutally deny us coals. Fact being we already knew they were cheap with their coals, it's an out door lounge so everytime we wanted to get more coals we would have to go inside and request it. Which would usually take an additional 10-15 minutes before you would get some new coals to smoke your bowl. They do not come and automatically bring you coals, you always have to request it...On top of that, during our course of sitting at the lounge, it's not like we requested alot of coals. When we first got the hookah it came with 2 coals, later on we requested some more, one of the workers gives us an additional 2 coals. After that when we went back into request more, the owner said "oh, you guys have been sitting there for quite sometime now, I know your bowl done with, so we're not gonna give you anymore coals, you are going to have to buy another bowl if you want more coal". I was stunned to hear this, I thought my buddy was joking to me when he came outside to tell me that we were denied coals....Like WTF? I am speecless...We are never ever coming back there, their hookah was never that great in the beginning. We only went there because no where else was opened that served hookahs. Just wanted to get the word out there to anyone from San Diego...Denying me coals wtf? The freaking place wasn't even busy to start off with. I've sat at numerous hookah lounges before far pass 2 hours with the same bowl and the workers/owners were happy to sit down and have a good time or talk to me and bring me more coals. I mean I can understand if the place was packed or something, but that was just uncalled for, its unexceptional...Has anyone ever experniced this? In such a short amount of time sitting there smoking? Don't go to Egyptian Tea Room in San Diego off of College Ave.

mdl
I remember buying tobacco from the Egyptian Tea Room almost a year ago and the service there was lacking. Employees bsing with each other and me waiting to get a word in just to be able to buy a good from them. With so many hookah lounges within that 3 mile radius (I can count 4) that place can't afford to piss off its customers.

HookahDude831
thats the problem with lounges, horrible service, not very good atmospheres, the music is eh.. if you had a lounge where the customer had to do nothing, had a full menu of flavors and drinks, and offered hookah and cigars and alcoholic beverages, with a live DJ, exceptional staff that is knowledgeable. that would be the $ maker. There is closer to 8 hookah lounges around that area. On the same street if anything, they're all within a block of distance from each other. It just happens the this guy is the only one that is opened during the day. The employees there are freindly but they're always bsing with each other, you can never get your word in for what it is that you want. And when you do, it takes them a freakisly long time to get you what you need because they're soo busy fkin around. I am never coming back there! anathema
I've only been asked once how long my party was going to stay. It was only because they were expecting a huge crowd they wanted to place in the back and my party had wanted a couch. They were just trying to be an effective business, so I/we understood. But the situation described here is just LAME. Cybersist
Living in the DC area, I have come knowledgeable of a few good hookah lounges. One chain that I gladdy patronize and recommend is Prince Cafe. They have several locations in the DC area, with the College Park, MD location being my favorite. They have great service. They always come around to check on you, bring out new coals, water, food, drink, etc. A friend and I have actually become "honored" customers of the place and are always greeted with a friendly handshake and sometimes even a hug. The atmosphere is chill for the most part, with Arabic TV on the screens. Only downfall being the cover charge of $10 per head after 10pm. Denying bricks though?!? Thats ridiculous considering a brick is worth less than $.50...

kornkitten42
So How many coals did you actually get? 2 sets? 3 sets? The way I took it, is you were trying ot go on your 3rd or 4th set. The hookah bar around me will only serve two sets of coals per bowl. The reason why is people kept asking for coals for dead bowls, and then they'd fall out in the middle of the lounge. The Owner thought it was to much of a liability since most of his customers don't smoke hookah regularly and apparently can't tell when a bowl is cashed, or how to pace ones self while smoking.I get where he is coming from but it also sucks as i have been in your position.
