Cybersist
QUOTE (kornkitten42 @ Nov 22 2007, 03:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The reason why is people kept asking for coals for dead bowls, and then they'd fall out in the middle of the lounge.LOL so the coals were knocking them out?!?! Thats got to taste horrible...
mushrat
I've actually had a few people fall out as well..one couple almost made it to their car a few spaces up from my front door before the girl passed out...She was ok but it wasn't a good scene out front with the paramedics and all.... MechAnt
There is a new lounge in my area that is FANTASTIC! Its called Turtle Bay Cafe in Tuijunga. They serve only Starbuzz and give coals however many you like however, they use quicklites and give a little too many so the bowls die very quickly (surprising for SB). Excellent service and great, modern atmosphere. The owners are father and son and really try to get to know you on a personal level.
thegreengoblin707
At the Zebra Loung in Baltimore, MD - they charge you $15 for a hookah session. You are not allowed to even move the coals! Forget about getting a new coal. Since they don't give tongs - the one time I went - I just used the steel tip of the hose. Sonthert
Well, Johnny, what can I say? Snff. Its fairly prevalent, really. If you give people carte blanche, they will smoke the bowl forever, until the pipe reeks of burnt tobacco. Making a real big cleaning problem. At Fumari, their standard was 45 minutes, they want you to pay, smoke your hookah for no more than 45 minutes and then move on. I don't offer refills...although most people never need to change pipes. I charge full price to make a new one...its just better practice, I think. RayVer
I dont like the idea of paying full price to get a new hookah once your done with the first but then again down here no one here serves Tangiers. Trust me I'd be more than happy paying full price IF I wanted a new one if they set me up with Tangiers.
nicayotte
2Sweet o nthe East Side of Milwaukee is horrible with this, the owners an asshole now due to all his underage smoking fines and is very very stingy. No tongs, 2 extra coals are $1 and you cannot move the coals or you are kicked out(sen it happen and its posted) He also sells hookah-hookah shisha and 3k coals at a ridiculous price( $22 for a box of coals and $14 for shisha)
th3unwant3d1
I never have been denied coals but If we stay too long they give us nasty looks when we do ask for coals. But then again there is no joke 3-4 Hookah bars around a 1-2 block radius of my house. Its very nice

Erica
I dunno.. I kinda see where he is coming from...How many of there were you??and was your bowl done?seeing as I used to work at a lounge... it does get kind of annoying when a group of people keep asking for coals when you know there is no way that the bowl taste good anymore.... AND most of the time when the bowl is that far into it.. you put brand new coals on and the people take a few puffs and realize that the bowl is Sh*T and leave.... aka waisting the coals..I dunno.. he shouldnt have been that rude but I do see where he is coming from
[Elmo]
At least you have Hookah lounges to go to... Come to Ft. Wayne where all we have is a few head shops that sell HookahHookah and cheap quicklites, and then you can complain about sh*tty service...
Victim026
I've been kicked out of a lounge before, and I no longer go to that hookah bar to spend my money. At the time my girlfriend was working there and I was studying for finals all evening. I had run up a tab of close to $100 that nite and went there every nite and spent $30-40 usually. After about 6 hours worth of studying and just getting my 4th bowl I had gotten up to go to the bathroom. I came back to my table being cleared and the owner(who was cool with me up to that point) holding my backup and he had apparently taken it upon himself to move all my shit including turning off my laptop and making me lose a paper I had been working on for the past 3 hours. He told me that I had been there too long and he had some of his middle eastern friends that needed my table more then I did and I had to leave. I was less then pleased with what he had done and made a huge scene in front of about 100 people and made damn sure everyone knew how much of an asshole the guy was and I think in the end I got about 30 regulars to discontinue going to the establishment. I would have understood if I had just been there and wasnt spending money.... But the guy got several hundred dollars a week out of me..... Never been denied coals anywhere though.... You don't even need to explain yourself when you knock their ass out for it. He should have either waited for you to get back or something, anything other than that though. His establishment may well indeed be his establishment, but just because I bring my wife some place does not give the owner permission to touch her and fear of jail would not save his dental health. So yep, I would have probably went to jail over the incedent that would have insued Oh, and definately set some auto-save up so you don't lose your work for whatever the cause may be.As far as the coal situation people covered pretty valid points each way. Although I think in light of the possibility of losing a customer he should have lifted the foil and checked it and showed you it was spent if indeed that was the case and if it was still smokable tell you he'll get you another coal and let you go with it. That or have a coal limit noted on the menu, anything. But if he lifted the foil and plucked out a crunchy puck and told you it was spent you would be more understanding is my guess. Some take suggestions well though. The one closest to my house did not know about 3 Kings or Starbuzz when they first opened and I brought some up, plus introduced them to Ali at Social Smoke and they were real happy I mentioned it. Some places would probably feel insulted but if I was picking up a vibe I would not bother mentioning it.
YuoGotOwn3d
Ive been to the Egyptian Tea Room twice...usually its me and 3 other friends. We get prob like 2 sets of coals and were out in a hour. Usually by then we'ere done. The one time I went to Fumaris on a busy saturday night, we were there for hour and a half and they gave us 2 sets of coals for each hookah for that time. THis place I went to in Rancho San Diego, gave us 2 coals right away. ha we were new to this at the time soo we didnt know how to light the quicklite kind of coal. So we put it on top of the current coal and learned the burnt feeling. Ha only at Fumaris did I get any to ask us about anything or how was it. The other 2 usually just gave us the hookah and left us.
