ZenSilk
http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?showt...mp;#entry173395Look at this post.Alright... Hand-made glass DOES NOT have seams. Period. Easy as that. That's literally impossible unless they use a cast. Which means it's hand made.. by a machine. Am i looking at this wrong??EDIT: Spelling Edited November 26, 2007 by ZenSilk
Canon
i said the same thing, i kept trying to tell them it was machine made but H-S online help said it was hand made and thats why it wasn't flawless. he was talking about it like an Egyptian hookah. ZenSilk
Alright, when i tlaked to them they said it was machine made. Well, the stem, i guess not the glass.... But that's a damn seam... and when glass artists are rolling the molten glass around on the Blowpipe, seams just dont appear. There has to be a press for the glass to ooze out inbetween the two plates. I mean.. seriously.
anathema
You have to declare Shenanigans to the rightful Shenanigan Society Stating Shenanigans (SSSS).
hookah hippie
Syrian hookahs are machine made but I would be pissed if my base looked like that. I don't mind imperfections but that seem is really ugly
oolatec
The stem is gorgeous... total bummer about the vase. Ouch. Perhaps they are stretching the meaning of "hand made"... hand painted, sure... but there's no way the glass was hand made from scratch.
Canon
its not even painted, its machine pressed
mushrat
It could still technically be hand made. Someone could have poured a molten glass into an old, single Vase manual type mold. There may have never been a machine involved. They said hand MADE, NOT hand BLOWN. There's the distinction many of you are missing.
ZenSilk
Awwww. nice catch..... but that's kind of annoying and misleading. Damn them! If there selection and customer serveice wasn't heavenly.....grrr.

ZenSilk
I have never seen hand-blown glass have a seam in it. Ever. period. But mushrat cleared it up.
mushrat
I wasn't speaking from personal knowledgeof this situation..was merely suggesting a possible explaination. But the distinction between hand made and hand blown does seem to fit this situation.
ZenSilk
Neither was I. But i've honestly never seen a hookah vase that has a seam. This si the first. Anywhere. And it's not a small seam, it's rather larghe and noticeable, and the paint is chipped which makes it even more noticeable. I think when i'm paying that much i would expect atelast a nice smooth finish if i didn't care about the paint, especially if they are "Hand-made". Their Egyptians don't have seams. I've seen a bunch of those in my lifetime. Even the cheap as hell chinese rig with no downstem this kid bought from Phillips 66/smoke shop has no seam. Canon
i dont think its painted on there, its more of a machine pressed, like its heat sealed onto the glass.
mushrat
from the crudeness of that seam, i'd GUESS it was made in an old fashioned mold. just think of it as your hookah's individual charm...
Canon
yeah, it wasn't what i was looking for, but on the brighter side, the vase's glass is very thick and i believe it could handle a few good knocks against the sink, and its shape is good for keeping the smoke cool while having enough smoke in the vase. my next hookah is probably going to be from HC. my girlfriend ordered a hookah from there, and the way her hookah looked was much better then mine (but mine smokes better)

Canon
thats the one my girlfriend got, if you dont mind a harder pull then i would get that one, the purge is amazing on that hookah. it pulls like a smaller hookah. it did come with a diffuser on the bottom, i had to take it out and work with it with my gerber (the 4 side holes werent holes)the diffuser doesnt effect the pull, and if you take it off then youll need to fill the water level higher
