For me, my girlfriend got me into hookah. we went to some crappy hookah bar in amarillo texas. we smoked and i loved blowing smoke out of my mouth. we went there a few times then i joined the military, while being away she bought a ballerina and commented on smoking it. so while out in san antinio i went to some hookah bars with friends and we went maybe once or so a month. i go to albuquerque. I went to a hookah bar there and because of the altitude i got a HUGE buzz, i was floating in the couch and it was crazy, well i started shaking because i needed some sugar in my system. i went there a few more times and then went to a better hookah bar where they served Hookahhookah tobbacco (that wasnt in the fridge first) it was nice smooth and good and i was hooked. i started researching hookah online and found the forum.

2 friends dragged me to hookah a couple nights and I was hooked. The smoke was thin though, so I always wondered if there were communities where people talked about hookah and I found this spot. I've learned a lot since being here.

I'd never actually smoked a hookah but was looking around for one to try when my wife suprised me with a 4 hose Raven II from hookahook. After almost dying in my first attempt to get it smoking (before i found the forum) I found the forum and found out how to do it right. Now, about 3 years later, there's Hookah Bliss.

I started one night when a few friends and I went to a new Hookah bar that opened in the city that I lived in at the time. Now today I have three hookahs. This forum helped me out so much. Would have taking me a lot longer to prefect somethings without this place!

Was trying to think of something one night with my now ex, and she mentioned a hookah lounge. Thought it was strange at the time but really neat, the whole idea of smoking with out harshness and legally. I started going every monday about 2 years ago with a friend and became friends with most of the employees and the guy who plays guitar and sings there. Eventually I started dating the manager and she would always let me and my friends come smoke for free so I started going like 3-4 times a week, and never looked back. Now i have my own hookahs and smoke them all the time and we broke up so i don't ever go back there.

A friend and I were curious about these tales of a hangout called the Hookah Bar right off campus. One day we decided to go check it out, and was hooked. After that we were attending once a week and actually became close with a couple of the owners of the place. After doing the math, we decided it would be much cheaper to go ahead a buy a hookah of our own.

i smoked hookah for the first time at a hookah bar in NYC. I've heard of hookah before that, but never felt compelled to try it out. I went with my friends on halloween all dressed up and whatnot, and had a great time. I went a few more times during that year, and then when i was back home in the bay area, i found out that one of my friends bought an egyptian hookah, and we pretty much smoked up the whole summer, lol. Bought my own (qt) when i came back to nyu for this year's semester, and yea, that's all i got to say about that

my father was always smoking hookah when i was a kid, and when we moved to new york he would take me to the hookah bar where he hangs out at up the block from us. he knew everyone and the owners and they eventually started serving me even though i was 14. ive been smoking ever since. now i usually smoke at home or at my friends house.

lets see here my hookah testimony haha, well i was 14 years old and i had an older brother who was 18, his buddy noah owned a 3 hosed hookah.One night noah called up my bro and invited him over to chill and puff the hookah, my brother invited me so i decided id go just to hang out, once i got there i was pressured into trying it and when i did i really enjoyed it, it was so fresh and nothing like anything else i had ever smoked. The fallowing Christmas my brother picked me up a one hosed mini hookah, and i smoked that for 8 months till i bought my 3 hosed ballerina, both these hookahs (hubbly bubbly) pipes have done me well. Tomorrow i am purchasing my 3rd hookah, a mya, im not sure which kind yet. But hookah has gone from something i do on occasion to an everyday occurring thing. Out of all the shisha i have ever smoke my favorite has got to be al amir's triple apple.

that it costs 2 dollars per session if you set it up yourself, and what better to go with video games and video entertainment, except i do miss some parts of movies and shows when it's my turn to light the coals.

my close friend introduced me to the hookah bar near where I live, which is like 20 minutes away. but hookah itself got me hooked, just the flavors and how relaxing it is...its the best =)

I was intrigued by the hookah at a young age when I lived in Saudi Arabia for 6 months (2 different occasions, 3 months at a time). It was very popular during the evenings and the hookahs were extravagant, tall, brass, and with many hoses. I wasn't anywhere near the right age to partake.

7 years ago a buddy talked me into going down to King Tut's Cafe in Tempe, Arizona to smoke Hookah. At the time, I didn't realize a hookah was the same thing that I saw Saudi Arabia. When I got to King Tut's I was ecstatic and sure enough I began going twice a month. That same year my friends bought me a small hookah bros. hookah for Christmas. It's been a hobby and past time of mine ever since.

I never really got introduced to it, I'm a normal cigarette smoker and was looking for something new to try.
After a search on the net I read about expensive brands of cigars, normal pipe tobacco and even e-cigarettes, but decided to try out the waterpipe.
After some research I placed a nice order and I'm really loving it.

When I was a senior in college, a friend of mine came back from studying abroad in Spain. What did she bring back with her? That's right, a hookah she had bought on a trip to northern Africa. Eventually several members of my fraternity (including me) bought bigger and bigger hookahs. Now, they smoke about 4 or 5 times a day. I'm just sad I graduated.

Wow, in reading all of these responses and all of the interesting ways that people have gotten into hookah my way seems a little dull... I was an *ahem* avid cigarette smoker and I have eyed various hookah's around in stores for a very long time but I never bought one do to the prohibitive cost. However, that all changed just a couple weeks ago. The manager of two 'discount tobacco' stores is carrying social smoke hookah's and I noticed the Orion III in a frosted orange at the unbelievable price of 60 dollars with accessories. Well I was sold and loved it. I don't know what shisha that the manager is selling as it is all in plain baggies and just marked as to flavor, but hey I still liked it . A funny thing was that my base broke before I got to smoke it the first time... I replaced it with an antique glass milk jug, for $2.00, (one quart size fits perfectly and is very sturdy). I am waiting to buy my replacement base. I just got some good shisha from Social Smoke (Laylina and Al Amir) and I can't wait to give it a try. I have really taken the information here and given a lot of it to the manager and helped them out and myself in providing better hokkah enjoyment, so thanks everyone.

I was at a party and mistakenly stumbled into the hookah room. They were smoking a mint/melon combo and the next week I had my own little 2 hose. Couldnt be happier but I can't wait till I have the $$ to upgrade.

I spent the first five months of this year doing a term abroad in Guatemala, and traveling around Central America, where hookah is very popular.

About 2 weeks into the term, I went with some friends to an incredibly authentic Arabian restaurant and hookah cafe in Antigua called Gaia, from which I chose my handle on these forums. I started going there about twice a week to smoke hookah and sip the best Mojitos I've found anywhere while I worked on assignments. I challenge that they have the one friendliest staffs in all of Latin America as well.

When I got back, I got my own pipe.

my friend is iranian and he got a hookah from some guy. at the time we didnt know that we had to use aluminum foil or anything so we would light the coal and put it right on top of the shisha. it was so disgusting but we got such a major buzz that we kept doing it and then his cousin who owns a hookah shop showed us how to do it right and we smoked fumari for a while. bad times funny memories

Ok it was maybe a year ago just before I turned 20... I had never smoked anything before and had barely even tasted alcohol. I usually accompanied my friends to several parties that had a hookah. After a few times of watching them go at it they convinced me to take a puff... it was a small puff.... and thats all I did. We came back again and I went full blown with it this time. And thats where it started. about 3 months later I had a dream... dreams a very rare with me so it was cool. I invented a hookah table with water faucet valves that turned on and off the smoke. The Hookah table was indeed part of your living room furniture.... a month later it was reality and I have 4 of them now. I also bought an egyptian about the same time and it smoked amazing... still does!

Now I am working on a recipe for shisha.... I have come a loing way...

Favorite flavor is mint.... first flavor I have ever tried.

Couple years ago... met up with a bunch of friends at a Turkish restaurant for dinner and the show (dancers)... there were a bunch of us, and after we all finished our food, this huge rotator came to our table. I had to at least try it (double apple). I'd say that was about 4 years ago. But only recently did I really become more interested in it. To the point of buying my own pipes etc. No regrets!
