theonlyagent
Does anyone have any good tips for me for heat management?I think it would be helpful if a few experts would comment on how they start, move, size, etc their coals and what coals they use.I would greatly appreciate it as Im apparently not very good at it. Canon
to start off i usually break 2 40 mm coals into 3 peices each, then i light up 3-4 peices depending on how big they are and put them on my tangiers phunnel bowl on the outside edges. i then put a windcover over the bowl so everything warms up faster. during the first 5-10 minutes i smoke a little bit letting the shisha warm up all the way, once i get thick/smooth smoke ill take off the windcover so it doesnt get too hot, when the smoke starts getting thin you need to knock the ashes off of the coals. if you walk away from the hookah and come back later then either put new coals and start it as you would a new bowl, or knock off the ashes and put the windcover on. bigcam112
if your like me your using a standard bowl and standard quick lighting coals such as three kings(standard size of course)... i start them by lighting both at one time stacked held between the tongs blowing until glowing orange.... i then place the coals in a few diffrent ways depending on how i feel... you can do them across the bowl from each other hanging off the edge slightly or i do a stack with one corner of the coal up on the other so its not completely on the bowl but still able to give heat... one thing i never usually do with everything standard is put the coals right next to each other... it seems to get to hot and burns the throat... you really have to experiment with things... but those tips should be able to set you off in the right dirction.. Raziel510
The best way to figure it out is to experiment and do it yourself. When I got my first hookah a month ago I wasted 5 bowls of shisha trying to figure out how to manage the heat. I finally figured out a system that works for me. Everybody has a different hookah, bow, coals, tobacco, etc and so each individual situation is unique. To start you off in the right direction though, try taking two quick lighting coals and heat them up. Blow on the until they turn orange and then place the two coals on the edge of the bowl directly opposite from one another. Take 3 to 4 slow deep pulls to get the shisha lighted. If your not getting good smoke after that try rotating the two coals around the bowl about a 1/4 of an inch and take another 3 or 4 deep pulls. That usually gets me started just fine. After that, just keep rotating the coals around the bowl every 15 minutes or so as the shisha gets used up.
