Ups Strikes Again

Recommended Posts

So I order a hookah from Mya Saray direct last week and was looking forward to getting it this week but still hadnt seen it. I then contacted Mya Saray and got the tracking # which revealed that they delivered it on tuesday (I have yet to receive this). Ups then tells me that the driver thinks he delivered it to my neighbors, so I go over and ask both of them (these people are married in their 30's) if they had seen a package and they claimed they hadnt. WTF!!! Either someone is lying and felt like smoking out or UPS dude is in the back of the truck carefully lighting coals. I am just so irritated right now and felt like venting....that is all. Anyone else have an experience like this?

i just bought a new laptop and UPS had the wrong address, so they decided that they would change the city where they were delivering it to because apparently that city had an address that matched the wrong one.

thankfully I called and they changed it before someone else started playing with my new laptop! Edited by garykainz

nah, i actually like ups way better then Fedex, they deleiver all my stuff on time and before i have to go to work at 5, fedex on the other hand requires a signature and i usually have to get someone to stay at my house and sign for it.....

UPS > FEDEX

I like the fedex signature system.. you can ask to see it if you have any questions about it....

i don't didn't have a preference. but ups is killing me.

I called again to see why it wasn't delivered today like they said it would be, and they hadn't changed the damn address! I'm gonna throttle the driver when he brings it. I know it's not his fault, but someone's gonna pay

Well, another victim of UPS. Ordered two times from h-s in the past two weeks, both shipped to my friend in the US due to Canada's absurd customs policies. Although both of them show up as DELIVERED on the tracking page, he never got the second order.
So, what should I do in this situation? I know it's (probably) not the store's fault, in fact I have no bad things to say about them. At the same time, being out $85 is not my idea of fun dry.gif

Just ask H-S about it and be nice. If they say they shipped it and your credit card is charged then you are in the clear. You can petition your credit card company to refund the payment till you get the package or file an insurance claim with UPS (most packages shipped from online companies are insured up to 50,000 dollars). Make some calls.

Yup, I just found out about my buddy not getting the second package and 'cause it's too late to make calls now I kind of flung it out on the forum. As to H-S I've ordered a couple of times from them so I'm sure it's a UPS issue.
And yes, my card was charged and the tracking page that you get access through h-s website shows that both of them were delivered.

If they cant figure out where they delivered it to, you're still entitled to your package or the value of it one way or the other. I'd still file a claim. Just because they call it delivered doesnt mean that you received it.

Thanks for the advice.
I'll talk with my buddy first and then make some calls tomorrow. Hope it works out in the end but it really sucks cause I have no more shisha and after checking, like 5 stores today all I found was SINBAT brand (wtf?) 15$/50g.
I really wish I lived in the US right about now dry.gif

I work as a loader for UPS, and like I've said in several posts, you'd be surprised what packages go through, how many are placed in the wrong truck, how many boxes that come down my belt empty with a label on it, and at how many items come down my chute with no box, no label, or anything.

Just yesterday I had a 20 piece or so drop (Same packages going to the same place) of clothes. You could tell the boxes were poorly packaged, and the boxes have been crushed several times. There was no tape help holding the boxes together, and almost every single one of those boxes opened up midway down my chute, sending clothes inside the truck, outside the truck, on the ground, on rails, and everywhere inbetween. There were probably 10 to 15 jackets in each box.

Do you know what most loaders do when that happens? They throw everything in the truck, but not back in the box. How is the unloader, whose most likely hundreds of miles away from the loader, supposed to know what went where? He doesn't. I've seen loaders do it hundreds of times just walking around the building.

I don't want you to think its just UPS that this happens at. This is everywhere. Have you guys ever been into a post office? They even have belts and tons of operating equipment in there. Boxes get tossed around, they open up, stuff goes everywhere, you're package is lost, and may not even be able to be found.

If I could give you guys any advice on shipping packages, it would be to:
1) Don't leave alot of empty room in your box, and don't use a box that has more creases than an 80 year old woman. It will collapse, and your package will get alot of damage done to it.
2) TAPE YOUR BOX. If you want to see whatever is in there safely delivered to its destination, you will not skimp out on the tape.
3) Dear god, dont put the label between two flaps on a box. This bends it and makes it unscannable without having to play with it. There is no better way to piss off a loader then an unscannable label. If we can't scan a label, we lose time trying to scan it, and end up not scanning it and just throwing it in the truck. Put the label on a flat surface. If the box has "This end up" labels, then put the label where the arrows are pointing. This is probably the number 1 reason packages don't get tracked.

If you guys have any questions to ask about what goes on, than I'd be glad to answer them. I work in a major hub of UPS, and know the internal process quiet well. Edited by Bryantos

Same here, but I worked for FedEx as a loader and unloader for almost 2 years. Now I work on the conveyors. Our hub has gotten better with that kind of stuff. The pace has slowed down a little bit allowing for more careful handling of packages. I see most of our trucks loaded really well, except for flat floor rails. Those are shittily loaded cuz you have to be able to reach 8 feet in the air to finish a wall. I trust FedEx more than UPS in that respect. But I've never had a problem with UPS's service either. So I guess it's just where you are that determines what the handling will be like. I have taken some precautions though and started ordering as close to California
as I can. Fewer hands the package is in, fewer chances for things to get screwed up.

-I don't like UPS. The whole "leave it on the doorstep thing" bothers me. I ordered my Compaq computer and they left it on my doorstep. I got home at midnight to find it. It was a huge Compaq box that showed the kind of computer on the side. Anybody could have stolen it.
