JillyIsJustKidding
Okay I packed it more and I put it in the freezer last night just like Tang suggestedEEK! But I can't really taste the orange soda and it tastes smokey and plasticy! Is it because of the way I packed it? Its sort of a harder pull and on the top of the bowl, the tobacco is pretty much bulging...Thats how much I packed itBTW I used a small clay egyptian bowl since I didn't want to use up too much Tangiers (I pretty much wasted a messload of tobacco from failed bowls)Can anyone gimme some tips? racemyghost
first tip - do NOT put your tangiers in the freezer.second tip - you have to overpack and take it easy on the coals.third tip - make sure you acclimate it enough ( about 3-4 hours)

DO this when you are poking holes in the foil, poke all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. it will make the pull easier. Tangiers is kind of hard to smoke with a Normal bowl because it is meant to be packed down, and when you pack somehting down in an Aegyptian bowl it will block airflow quite a bit. That's why there is the phunnel. Did you put it directly form the freezer into the bowl? That would make it have no taste. ALso, what coals are you using? Orange Soda has a strong easily recognizeable (cause it tastes just like OS) taste, so it has to be soemhting to do with coals or packing or storage. Did you acclimate it? Did you acclimate it?I;m using those Japanese easy lites. Nah I didn't put it directly from the freezer. I mixed it around for about 30 mins. Yup I acclimated it for 6 hours 2 days ago :\ Maybe I'll try poking the holes all the way down. I'll make aother bowl and see how it works out. ZenSilk
Like ES said, use 3 or 4 Jap coals around the bowl, 3 a triangle shape; 4 a square. Small= 3 coalsMedium or Large =4They could be bad Japs though.. what brand are they? And did you let the si;lver coating burn all the way off? erufiku
Can't wait for my batch of cocoa to arrive, first tangiers experience Could you post info when (if?) you figure out what's the cause of the problem? I get the feeling I might go through some tobacco before I get it right...
ASUSEAN1
the whole freezer thing shocked the tobacco, set it out where u usually smoke and acclimate it again for atleast 4 hours and then never put it in the freezer again and then try it
pavlakos
in an egyptian its good to fluff up the mo'assel and leave a tiny bit of space betwen it and the foil. also try to evenly distribute the syrups and juices to all the mo'assel before packing the bowl, as thats where much of the flavor comes from. on the foil setup try and make bigger holes in the middle and getting smaller as you get closer to the edge. also remember that tangiers doesnt require much heat, so use a little bit less coal than you normally would and if you feel you need more add more coal. thats my 2 cents. Canon
if your packing it right, doing the holes right then all it comes down to is your heat management, experiment with that and i think youll get it..but like i said, if your getting everything right, work out a system with your coals. JillyIsJustKidding
I think I've figured out why their is a plasticy/smokey taste...ITS THE COALS!I just tested out Starbuzz-Fuzzy naval and I can still taste the plastic and nasty taste!Yes, I didn't put it on the bowl until it was red hot and that the silver layer came offI guess I'm starting to notice it now because I've been so used to using naturals.I cleaned the whole hookah pipe and everything...I even used a new hose and I can still taste it...GRrr I'm gonna buy a new bag of naturals when I get my new order off of Bobby.
