SmokingDjinn
Yes I buy books, I want to have a nice library eventually. Some people collect coins and other things, I collect books. I find they say a lot for a person, when you can walk into their house and look at what they are reading or have read.
thecoalition
I buy books as well. I would like to be a rich guy with a nice library but I can't afford the hard covers so when I make a million I will bind them all in leather."I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahagony" Ron Burgundy
ubernerd83
When reading hookah, I tend to delve into graphic novels and short stories more than anything else. Although I did find myself delving into a dual language edition of Goethe at one point...I have to say, though, my favorite novel of all time is American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. He's pretty much the best currently active author of speculative fiction around. For a shorter introduction, try the short stories "Troll Bridge" and "Shoggoth's Old Peculiar." thecoalition
not a fan of haunted? i thought the short stories were a nice change, although the one about beating off and all the horror that entailed made alot of my friends think twice about getting into freaky things haha
judgeposer
I'm re-reading After Virtue, by Alasdair MacIntyre. I recommend it for anyone interested in philosophy, especially ethics. He's, by far, my favorite contemporary philosopher. For those times I want something lighter, I resort to Motor Trend.
SmokingDjinn
Well, I finished reading Arabian Nights, good read, but kind of difficult, up next Heart Of Darkness.
anathema
@SmokingDjinnSome friends from senior year in high school read that. It's supposedly awesome when dissected. If that book was a person, you'd have to take their shit, eat it, then poop out their poop and then try to get it's DNA banding. Then find the Fibonacci sequence to the distances the DNA bands migrated and then you'll find golden messages from Michael Jackson. Anything that requires multiple reads, no thanks. SmokingDjinn
Heart of Darkness was pretty good, I love the line "The Horror! The Horror!". Anyone read Terry Pratchett? I'm starting to read his Discworld series, I'm on The Light Fantastic.
Ralleac
QUOTE (SmokingDjinn @ Dec 1 2007, 02:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I don't know about you guys but I love reading. I'm currently reading "1001 Arabian Nights". Anyone else like to read? What are you reading?I've been reading around 1 novel a week siince I was 12. Right now I'm reading David Eddings. None of his books seem particularly impressive, but they're still good for sheer entertainment.I'm probably going to pick up some of Gene Wolfe's books once I'm done. The Book of the New Sun and The Book of the Long Sun were both amazing.
Saturated Fats
Call my crazy; but I'm a sucker for Ayn Rand novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged in particular. I'll never turn Kurt Vonnegut away either. Right now I'm in the middle of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath.
