Bane
I tried campfire coals one time, and for some reason it didn't really work for me. I thought it would be perfect, 'cause coals are coals, right? I couldn't seem to get enough heat out of them.
Stew
get the big ones... last time I had a fire, I spied a few that would be of perfect use. Best thing is they are more natural than the lemon wood coals and those are apparently pretty damn natural. If you get the fire started and trow on a bunch of thin (about 1") sticks, they should end up being the right size for the job.
Stew
I meant to say that the 1" ones would be more like the finger coals
MR Bubble
Just make sure it's hard woods you use. Pine might really do a number on you. MR Bubble
mushrat
Ya, I used fire coals at an SCA war once. Worked fine! Peopel thought I was crazier than usual sticking my head in the fire looking for good sized coal with a little set of tongs.
