Ooph
With your hands or some type of technique? I do not think there are any techniques posted....so I would like to know the right way of doing it.
oolatec
Don't think there's a right or wrong way. Whatever works for you! What works for me is:serrated knifecut about half an inch down, twist the knife and a piece will break off
RayVer
Get a knife and do a small "incision" where you want it to break... Once you do this a small line will be left, hold the exotica coal with that line facing opposite of you and snap it with your hands. It'll snap on the line and it'll be much easier than if you try to do it with just your hands. Do it over a sink or trash because you get coal dust coming off of it. clickhea
i just heat it up and then use the tongs to break it into smaller squares
Hookah_Bob3
I use the edge of my tongs to serrate two adjacent sides and then a bit more on the connecting corner, break from corner to corner and you can get just about any size you want. Serrating just down one side works well if you're doing large pieces, but the smaller you get, the harder (until it becomes nearly impossible) it gets

spoolinspoon
Use a mask.... and wear some eye protection. I don't think it would be any good if a chunk of coal in your eye.
