Does Anyone Here Use These?

Recommended Posts

If the holes are toothpick width then that should work. Give it a try. There used to be an ongoing debate here screens vs. foil. I was one of the screen fans.

You just have to use more heat to get it started because the metal is thicker, but it does enable you to underpack your bowl since there is no foil to sag for shorter smoke sessions.

i used to use one when i was newer at hookah, i got out of the habit of using it, plus it makes me feel better if i take 2 minutes to put the foil on and poke the holes how i want them.

a screen similar to this one came with my egyptian hookah. i use foil, but i found a use for it. i bent the little feet (feet?) downward about 90 degrees and now i use it to light my coal. the "feet" hold it up enough to not burn your floor or whatever. i'll put the screen on the concrete outside to light the coal, then i'll hold the screen with one set of tongs and use another set of tongs to put the coal on the bowl. pretty handy use for the screen.

Pictures! (one way how to light your coal)

Here's a visual of how i use the screen that many people have no use for:

It rests on the little "feet" and keeps the coal's heat away from the counter-top surface if you want to set it down for a quick moment.

Easy to transport your coal without having to grasp it in your tongs and fear dropping it on the carpet. Much safer!

anyone else do this?

If your in a cramped location or just gonna do a small bowl, the screen is handy.
When you want to take it easy and slow (takes my preference), I'd go for foil.

I have it in my bag as a backup because I tend to forget to pack foil.

What I dislike most about it is the fact that the coal doesn't stay put at the place where you put it.
If you want to get your heat management right, it is anoying that the coal goes to the center all the time. Edited by Boersnoes

I was always a screen fan too... There has been some information supporting Aluminium and a link to Alzheimer's.. and I need every brain cell I can get. I would much rather drown them in bitter or Laphroaig, than gas them with aluminium vapors.
