Geiseric
Depends on what you are using, a lot of herbal teas will burn and taste awful. I use it in the base all of the time though.
Texico
Yeah, I've seen people mention using lipton green tea in their base. I've only got oolong and Earl Grey, and I can't see Earl Grey working with hookah. Do you use a mix of tea and water or just 100% tea? Also, what kinds have you tried and enjoyed? I can see oolong maybe being a good tea for this.

bubbascigars
I always goto Big Lots and get tea they sell boxes cheap and they have a large great flavor selection. I found the cinnamon apple is a great one in the base.
ZenSilk
Use a stronger tea. I reccomned Rooibos. It's a red tea, African in origin i believe. It has a very earthy, slightly fruity aroma and a creamy taste. It's a good hookah base, it is a stronger bolder flavor tea than regular black pekoe or a lipton/mightyleaf/bigelow etc. commercial tea. I roccomend buying it looseleaf. Also, you may want to try Genmaicha(roasted brown rice) green tea. If you've ever been to a Japanese or Chinese restaurant and ordered green tea, then you know what it tastes like. It's a stronger green tea, and maybe you can even just use Powdered Matcha, but that has a strong leafy taste most may not like.Rooibos[attachment=760:GetAttachment_1.jpg]Genmaicha[attachment=759:GanMaicha.jpg] Edited December 6, 2007 by ZenSilk

ZenSilk
Don't put tea in the Bowl! Damn. Be respectful of the the Art of Tea!
Silk
Filling my vase with iced tea is something I do all the time. I love smoking Honey flavored shisha through a base filled with iced Plum White Tea. Simple amazing.I actually have some chilling right now for a session later tonight. Mmm..Adding the tea leaves to the bowl itself though, that's another story.. Not so sure I'd be up for trying that.

But it is in there to absorb moisture, just like how you put rice in salt to keep it from clumping, or bread in brown sugar. This is what the guy who makes the tea said. Some people say it is popped rice... but rice doesnt do that.
SmokingDjinn
Genmaicha is pretty good, I always drink premium loose leaf green tea from a tea french press. I wouldn't waste my premium in the vase, i'd use tea bags.
Dr. Atkins
It is popped rice, and rice does definitely do that.
bunnymud
I'm a puer tea freak but I HIGHLY doubt that would taste good in the bowl. Well.....maybe a Tibetan puer would be nice with some Al Fakher cola shisha
