SafeSearchOff
okay, so it's not specificallyo n the canterbury tales, and you don't need to have read it to gimme some feedback - which is much needed and appreciated.okay, so i'm writing a research paper on the canterbury tales, specifically the Franklin. The Franklin is a wealthy landowner of high class, but not born into high class. He is a gentleman, and Epicurean in nature. Epicurean means "eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow you may die".do you think the virtue of patience would or wouldnt be a virtue that the franklin would preach about? this is not what my paper is about, but that will cover like a page or two of information... soo... help? please? ori
I do not think the Franklin would preach patience. If you are of the attitude that you need to live life to the fullest then things would sometimes be done sporadically and without much thought. When a person has the mindset that they might die tommorow things can not be procrastinated, they need to be done immediately. The Franklin would preach about not being over-aggressive or thoughtless but patience is contradictory to the idea that you need to enjoy yourself constantly in the here and now. Also since he is high class but was not born high class he probably took some chances and acted impatiently to rise up the social ladder which was not nearly as fluid in Chaucer's time. Elky
To preach patience would be contradictory of any Epicurean wouldn't it?What with thier carpe diem approach.
