It looks great but be prepared to find alot of problems with the 64 bit vista. I know a lot of ppl who have had problems with it and ended up trading it in for 32 bit. u should be able to do some good gaming with that though, what games do you play?

Ha it looks like you did the Intel Retail Edge deal!

I will be building a new rig once i get my christmas presents. I have half the parts already but heres what it will consist of when its done.

Quad Core Q6700
2gb of pc8500 Corsair Dominator
2 150 Seagate drives
Dual Dvd-rw's
SLI 2 x 8800GTS 640mb
800w antec psu
mobo---not sure yet
gonna use my tsunami dream case too.

I was gonna go with the black pearl mobo from evga, bc the intel x38 chipset doesnt officially support sli. Also not sure if the nvidia 780/790i chipset will be out soon or not!

ill def throw up some pics of it once i build it Edited by thecoalition

If you get the dominator ram it won't handle the EVGA boards lots of compadability issues and i play the following games
COD4
Oblivion
TF2
some other shit... all seem to be working fine and with my computer technical background i think i can figure it out

Now the real question is: Will it play Crysis at a framerate above 30fps?

And I think your computer might be able to do it...... tweaked.

my current build which is two years old play crysis at 45fps on medium settings. im pretty sure anything new i build can do better
didnt know about the evga/dominator issues. still waiting until prolly january or so to see if nvidia is gonna drop that new chipset. if it doesnt look promising i might just go with an asus maximus or the gigabyte with x38 and just upgrade through evga's program to an 8800 ultra Edited by thecoalition

My next build wont be a gamer system. Already have one that plays Oblivion well enough. Im thinking 32 in. LCD tv with a MythTV style box behind it mounted to the back. Similar to George Ou's build on ZDNet but made of sheet metal instead of wood and twice the size. All Linux. It's also going to be a wireless media server that I can connect to anywhere in the apartment/house. If I want to pull movies from the server and watch them in a different room, all I have to do is stream directly from the server instead of loading a DVD or waiting for the whole file to download. I want something more functional than powerful this time around. Plus watching and recording in HD without having to pay for DVR service is fantastic. Cant wait.

I would have stuck with Xp and I would have gotten a raptor, but everything else is good. Are you going to get your GPU core up to 750?

Nvidia has annouced the 9000 series in early to mid 2008... but the 8000 series prices will not decrease since thats not what Nvidia does.

The 9 series was SUPPOSED to be released this christmas. Instead they are going to release the 8850GX2 (G92) which used to be codenamed 8950GX2( G80 I think?). The 8850GX2 and the 8800GX2 should be out Next month. Then My guess is feb-march the 9 series will drop, probably with a different name but Nvidia hasnt announced a name change yet. and it is supposed to be if not 2x faster than the 8800GTX, 4 times....but of course the x2900XT was supposed to be twice as fast as the 8800GTX. Its slightly faster but the Ultra beats the XT.

Im going to wait for the 9 series to drop them build a new PC. Hopefully DX10.1 isnt borked.

kinda off topic- but they have COD4 for pc?

Yes, they have COD4 for PC.

I must have been out of the PC gaming community for awhile. Last time I checked SLI was overkill when it came out.

I'm also hoping to throw 3 more gigs and a sound card into my monster before too long so I can run CoD4 flawlessly.
