Cybersist
Last night I was enjoying a nice hookah with a couple of friends. We killed two bowls of some Layalina, good stuff. Upon packing the third bowl and lighting up a new coal, something went wrong. As I went to go start the hookah up, I got straight coal. Tasted like quicklites, smelled like quicklites, and was bad. Within 10 minutes of taking that draw (I told the others and everyone opted out of that third bowl, I agreed), I became insanely cold even with the heat on, raised heartrate, fuzzy vision, shaking, nausea, and a headache. At this point I was drinking water thinking that this might help (which it did), but this wasnt going to go away soon. I went to bed after this to try and sleep it off. The effects lasted through the night, but this morning I am fine. Was this CO poisoning? From the bricks I am guessing..
Geiseric
I have had those symptoms before, but I think that was early stages of nicotine poisoning, I usually hear of CO poisoning associated with feeling sleepy, dizzy, and having headaches, as the carbon monoxide takes the place of oxygen in red blood cells, making less *oxygen* travel through your body and brain.*Edited for slip-up that made me look like a moron.* Edited December 10, 2007 by Geiseric
Johnny_D
Agreed Geiseric, sounds like nicotine overdose! However Cybersist uses the word 'bricks' in his Post.Your not using BBQ bricks are you? JD
Geiseric
I don't think Cybersist would make that kind of newb mistake. Looks like from his phrasing, he was using qls "lighting up a new coal". Thinking of them as qls, and looking at his post again, I think he smoked the charcoal before it was burned off, pulled sparks into the shisha, and smoked a full hit of burning shisha, which is enough to give any man nicotine poisoning. But then.. he says "Tasted like quicklites, smelled like quicklites," which makes me think maybe not. What coals were you using, Cybersist? Johnny_D
Your probably right G'But I would feel remiss if we did not ask the question.JD
Cybersist
I was using 3 kings quicklites, sorry about the confusion
Geiseric
Yeah... Make sure you check that it is all the way burned off. Sometimes a little bit of it stays behind, underneath the tongs if you are lighting it while holding it, or underneath it if you are lighting in on its side with a torch. Thats more than enough to ruin your weekend, if you take a hit right away after you set it on it.
Cybersist
Ahh, ok, well thanks for the information guys. This certainly did wake me up to what can happen if precautions are not taken...
everydayshisha
CO wont cause nausea. I agree with the others that its probably too much nicotine probably from aggresive smoking. CO can cause tireness, dizzyness , and you may feel sleepy

mrenergy09
Hey i guess that Carbon Monoxid and the Nikotin were something like a cocktail that blew u away. Sry for my bad english its not my first language. next time use Coconot coal like Tom Cococha or other coal but no charcoal like ,,Instant Lite" or " 3 Kings". That taste of these natural charcoals is much better! And while u are smoking make sure that u have a window open because your body needs oxygen and fresh air. Its also important to breath after having smoked for a while and the best is to drink water or tea while you are smoking.so far mrenergx
Geiseric
Naturals are better, no one would argue that, but sometimes you cannot beat the convenience of qls. For instance, smoking on the go, it's impossible, or annoying at the very least to bring with a burner to start up a natural coal. mathuv
i agree. also mrenergy is right, fresh air and liquids are important when smoking hookah. i find that coke enhances the sweetness of the shisha
