PIPE OR CIGAR TOBACCO

Recommended Posts

I have 8 pipes,  and I smoke them a few times a week.  I also
have a humidor filled with cigars.  I smoke 1 to 2 cigars a
day.  Is it healthy.....HELL NO!!!  But it curbs my nicotine
addiction,  and it's just an enjoyable and relaxing
activity.  I love smoking cigars and will probably do it for the
rest of my life........which could possibly lead to Cancer,
but so could Hookah Smoking if done too often.  Everything in
moderation, and you'll probably be fine

I think the question was if these types of tobaccos are good to use in a hookah. I may be wrong.
Ive tried pipe 'backy once and it is really harsh.... even when I mixed up some with honey or corn syrup.
My understanding is that ma'assel is made of fermented tobacco. The fermentation takes harshness out in the form of its "bite" and reduces nicotine. Im not sure if the tobacco used is the Oriental variety or a Burley tobacco. It would need to be one of the other I would think.... Virginia tobacco has a very sharp tongue bite.
That being said........ There are only two forms of fermented pipe tobacco, Perique and a mock Perique which is actually a dark virginia grown in Tennessee. The trouble with Perique is that the flavor is really strong. Imagine smoking Zagloul times 5 in intensity. Not a really a great medium to use for flavored tobacco due to its strong characteristics. However. The nicotine level should be about right. maybe a little strong. Pipe tobacco is made from the "cutters", the bottom most leaves on the plant. The higher you go up on the plant, the higher the nicotine.
Generally cigar tobacco will be too strong of a tobacco to use... due to nicotine level. Cigar tobacco is cut from the middle of the plant. Not sure if there is any fermented cigar backy out there.
I've heard of folks using ciggy shag. Well...... they say it works.... but cigarette tobacco has the highest amount of nicotine weight for weight..... so... enjoy the headrush.
One thing I have yet to do is to use a readily available tobacco that suits the bill. It is an easily acquired Burley tobacco that is fermented.
Chewin Tobacco...... it will have to be boiled and then toasted first.. but I'll get back with ya when I get it done.

I have a friend who is actually growing tobacco at this time. I told him some folks were experimenting with making their own ma'asell. He says he'd be happy to send some along to experiments with. Small donations would of course be appriciated, for him, not myself.
