Some of you may remember that I've posted a few topics about how I still couldn't get Tangiers to smoke right....

And I still can't! Lol and its been like 7 bowls already!

Last bowl, I KINDA did! tongue.gif

First few puffs: nice and thick. A little bit tingly in my throat but it didn't bother me too much.

Also, the Orange Soda taste was AMAZING for those first few pulls, especially the buzz...

Then after those great pulls...

The taste was GONE and then the harshness and the smokey taste came back!!! ahhhh

What am I doing wrong?!?!?!

(I was using an egyptian clay bowl. It seems to be the only bowl I can be able to make it work for a little while...)

BTW: Yes I did follow the man himself's lil tutorial on how to pack a regular bowl and yes I did stir and acclimate before I packed it.

keep it in clumps. Also use big big holes all over and put one about 2x the size of the others in the middle of your bowl. Also only use 2 coals. Smoke for 5mins and then flip ur coals and keep them in the exact same spot. That will get it smoking right. Good luck.

Thanks :]

Ahhh but does anyone have ne pics of how high you should pack a bowl? Most of the time I thinkk I'm overpacking and then maybe I really am underpacking for Tangiers?

Yeah i think ur burning it too. Start off with a small amount of coals. When it worked for me i only used half a quicklight and moved it around the bowl then after a bit i added the other half. But im no tangiers expert. But when i tried it, that worked for me.

I know people talk about it being just as good in a regular bowl, but I can't replicate the quality of tangiers smoked in a phunnel, it just smokes perfectly. Rayver has a good video on how to pack tangiers in a phunnel, although I pack it a little lower than he does, I'm not entirely how it doesn't burn with the way he packs it right up to the foil.

I never really had a problem with tangiers, but i think it has to do with my OCD too..

haha i have this "ocd" symptom that i have to touch the coals like every 10 minutes, my friends hate it, but it works well; especialy with tangiers.

So in other words, try moving the coals around constantly, instead of frying one spot.

I've been using nours lately...Do you think dats da prob and that I should just stick to my E-L Japanese coals?

I havn't personaly tried Nours, but i havn't heard great things about them. IMO Japanese coals are so far the best. They're pretty much the same thing as exoticas - in my opinion.

Are you lighting your coals ALL the way before you're smoking? Light them to the point where they start ashing on your stove/tortch/whatever, and turn grayish whitish.

yeah, sounds like you have too much heat to me too. how much of your coals are you using? different coals burn at different temperatures too. i wonder if anyone can compare the nours to say 3k? as far as ratio? like 1/3 of a nour = 1/2 of a 33mm 3k tab?
