Ooph
Well I havnt had a good session yet on this.Nammor HoseMNH Glass BowlStarbuzz flavorsThree Kings or Exotica coals...I have no idea what I am doing wrong...the smoke is just garbage, really thin not thick at all. Could it be the hole placement in the foil? I dont know...I have given up after tonights session.
sss8789
there could be a few things that could affect the thickness of your smoke.Make sure your hookah is air tight, it could be the foil placement, could be the way you pack your bowl, or the heat management. Ooph
The air release valve should that also be tight when smoking out of it?
Zildjian
yes. try it without the bowl just for fun...make sure the ball is down the purge valve, if you inhale and hear a whistle uncrew the purge shake it and put it back in

MechAnt
Do what Zild suggested and, do you have prior experience with phunnels in general? Phunnels are difficult to get starting when you first get/use it. Try using the standard MYA bowl and it should be just fine. 99% of the time it is user error, not hardware. Ooph
Yea I could get tangiers to smoke nice on my old hookah. Except for the harshness, but nice none the less. I was hearing that whistle on the paragon, could the water level also affect the smoke? I could see the smoke was accumulating in the vase but none of it was getting blown out even when I blow thru the hose. ZenSilk
Myas and purging are not good friends. It won't purge well at all because it's a common chamber. You shouldn't always have to purge though. There is somehting wrong if you literally can't get it to smoke...- Check all the ball bearing in your auto-sal valves if you have any. - Check the airtightness of the draw by putting your hand over the empty bowl and drawing. If the water is bubbling normally than it is fine. - Make sure the water is about 1/2" - 1" above the downstem tip. - Take apart the stem and blow into each piece indvidually to see if there are airflow problems or blockages.Basically no matter what you will get smoke through a working hookah, unless your coals aren't hot enough, are misplaced, or are crappy. I found that in the cold air, QL's will burn cooler than normal, and much slower, and my normal SB technique of resting the coals on the Mod so they have an air space between the foil and the Coal suface does not work at all because he coals don't burn well enough in low temps. Tagiers does not smoke well in the winter because of rapid temperature, ir pressure, and humidity changes during the winter, usually cuase by a storm. Coals don't perform as well in the winter either, but Natural coals are 50x better than QL's in winter. This was said by Sonthert himself in a much earlier post regarding Tangiers in winter (Cymptom was asking the question i believe...)

Foos
Yeah Id say smoke with a normal bowl because I'm sure a glass bowl will be harder to manage heat with rather than a normal bowl. I doubt your rig is giving you problems, proly just heat issues.
ASUSEAN1
if the purge valve wasnt tight, then tht is why the smoke was thin..even if the jar fills up with smoke thick you will still get tiny clouds so make sure it is tight and that the ball bearing is in there

Also, with the mya paragon the ball bearing is lodged in there I dont think it will come out if it wanted too .
RayVer
Yeah sometimes the purge valve on my Mya Gyro doesn't work.... real bad design by Mya. You have to give it a few taps with your finger to make sure the ball bearing falls down. When I dont have it in right I get the same effect as you described with the thin smoke. ZenSilk
Dang! I would think Premium Mya stems woudl be better than My little Mya Acrylic stem... Guess not. Schwing!
Ooph
Well I found out my problem. It was the lack of water in base...was filling it too little. Works fine with the standard mya bowl.

ZenSilk
Can't get a bad Mya stem, they are all factory made to perfection! Now the vases, their problem is the exact same thing that makes the stems so great, being factory made.
hookah hippie
I have a paragon as well and it smokes pretty well My only beef is that the stupid ball bearing gets stuck at the bottom of the release valve got to do what rayver does and tap it into place
