lonasindi
So I just put together my new desktop and it is one sleek machine. Intel core 2 duo, nvidia 8800gts, 2 gigs of ram and so forth. My old desktop was running on about 7 years old, so this is a nice kick in the pants. Geiseric
You have me in the gfx card realm, I have an 8600, but I have Core II Duo *2.4* ghz and 4 gigs of DDR2 ram. Still can't run DX10 effects worth shit. And that is why I play my 360 more than my pc. Edited December 25, 2007 by Geiseric

Despite having alot of power elsewhere, people sometimes negate to purchase high-end mobos with high-end chipsets.
Geiseric
Intel PM965 Express, yes, its a mobile chipset, and the gfx is a 8600m gt. Its the mobile version, so yeah, it is a little underpowered, but I have heard the same issues with the non-mobile version. DX10 is just a resource hog. I haven't done much gaming on it yet, I'm actually installing the CoD4 demo now.

However, if its Vista, 1gig barely cuts it, 2gigs IMO barely makes it as well.

Geiseric
"I don't believe he could address more than 4gb without running a 64 bit version of windows. Or is that just XP?"32-bit OS's (Any, MS made or *nix based) can only hit the 4 gigs of memory mark TOTAL, so your system ram cutoff is usually at 3 gigs. You can get around this by allocating the remaining 1 gig to non-dedicated video ram (most bioses will set it up like this by default. I run 64 bit with 4 gigs, but something a lot of beta testers noticed back when we were testing it (I was an early beta tester) was that vista seems to by nature hog about 3/4 of whatever resources you throw at it. Its just poorly designed. Add that to the resource hog of DX10, which is ALL that Vista will run, no option for a downgrade, which would be more than welcome, considering how filled with issues DX10 is, its like they are using us as beta-fucking testers when we paid for a finished product. Ugh.BTW, Sceetz is right, You need more ram to compliment that 8800. Wish I had the 8800, the mobile 8800 blows the the mobile 8600 out of the water. Don't go to Vista yet, though. Give it a year or so to become stable, because it fucking blows right now.

I left my big storage drive with most of my games on it at my apartment when I came home for christmas, and I'm kicking myself for it.
