I currently own a Sphinx I purchased from Hookah-shisha.com, and a mini-hookah I use when I don't have much company or am just feeling lazy as far as clean-up goes.

To keep a long story short, the Sphinx was damaged a while back. I can either replace the stem for around $45 without having to pay for shipping, or I can buy a new hookah.

Replacing the stem seems like a good idea initially, but I'd like something with at least two hoses that auto-seal. Also, since shipping is free right now a new Pharoah or even their larger "King Tut" wouldn't run me too much more once I factor in new hoses and everything. I'm also curious about the ice chambers I've seen on a few websites, but I'm disappointed by the inflexible variety of hookahs most places show them being compatible with.

Right now I'm looking at getting a rotator, another egyptian hookah (it smoked great when it wasn't broken), or the syrian chiller (available at H-S.)

Sidenote: Before people jump on me regarding mentioning size, I know that it doesn't have a lot to do with how well a hookah actually smokes. I'm only mentioning it at all based on my own personal preference.

Rotating Models
Pros: It rotates, and is available as large as 36".
Cons: No auto-seal. Incompatible with ice chamber.

Egyptian Models
Pros: It looks great for the price, and I already know they smoke well. Available as large as 36"-45" (overkill?)
Cons: No auto-seal. Incompatible with ice chamber.

The "Syrian Chiller"
Pros: It looks great, has auto-seal, and comes with an ice chamber.
Cons: It is more expensive, and is only 28" (still a good-sized large hookah, IMO.) I'm not sure if an ice chamber is really worth having yet.

I'm not really leaning in any one direction yet. Any input? Edited by Ralleac

From what I have heard, the ice chamber feature doesnt do a lot and if I remember corredctly sometimes tends to leak water out. Also while rotators do look cool they have a few dissadvantages. There are more ways that they can break due to there being more parts, also their water chamber is smaller and will heat up faster. I would either stick with the egyptian if that is what you are comfortable with or go with some of the more popular, highly rated hookas out there (KMs, SS syrians, or a Mya) hope that helps. That is one thing I hadn't thought of with the rotators. I'm hoping to make this next hookah last for a while.

Most (not all) of the larger Mya's I'd want to buy would break my bank currently, but KMs and a lot of the hookahs at SS are definitely in my price range.

Get a Magdy Zidan or a KM Egyptian. Well, or a Mya or Syrian from SOcial SMoke.

DO NOT get a H-S Syrian. ANd 45 bucks is alot of money for a new stem, when you could buy a designer hookah for a little more.

Check the Trade threads, theres a bunch of nice KM's for sale there.

Ohh DO NOT EVER EVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE buy a rotating hookah. smile.gif

I saw some nice KMs that wouldn't be too bad on HookahCompany.com, but I wasn't seeing any with multi-hoses either.

Well, some of them don't list who they were made by, actually. Is this KM?

So, I went ahead and ordered the blue/silver-based Syrian with the ice-chamber from SS and a phunnel bowl since I've heard good things about them. I should be able to find a matching hose adapter somewhere. Edited by Ralleac

I went with the latter mainly because H-S had already won me over with their customer service and I liked the free gifts they offered. I've been very happy with my purchase and I really feel the ice chamber does make the smoke cooler than just puting ice in the vase. I always put ice in both and the combination makes for a really cool smoke. It would be great if you'd do a review of your hookah when you get it, I'm interested to know what I missed out on. I will be posting a review for mine shortly.

Yeah, I've been told putting it in both the chamber and the base helps. I'll post something when I get it. The price difference at SS wasn't very big between their Syrians w/ the ice chamber as opposed to those without, so I went ahead and ordered it. I wish it were here already since I just got home after 2 weeks with no hookahs around, but I'll make do w/ my mini or the bent *** egyptian.
