I'm Finally At That Point In Hookah-dom

Recommended Posts

I'm finally to the point where I'm so confident in making bowls for people that I know they're going to love it. I used to make the worst hookah ever... Ever. It would either:
A ) Burn
B ) Taste like chemicals
C ) No smoke
D ) Taste like poo for some odd reason

And I'm talking about 95% of the time. Hookahs would last for 15 minutes, sometimes they wouldn't even get going. Now, I have transitioned to having people coming up to me saying "Oh my god, this is a really good hookah. Whats in it?" "Oh my god, I love your hookah", etc. etc. It feels really good to have people enjoy your work. cool.gif

Mush, it must feel amazing to run a hookah bar, because I'm sure you get it all the time. Especially since I know you use naturals and you know your stuff along the lines of heat management and good mixes.

Did everyone go through this transition, or was I just starting at a lower point for setting up hookahs? laugh.gif

I commend all of you, hookah forumers, for making it possible. wub.gif Edited by Bryantos

I find I go through times of less than appealing bowls, but no one ever complains. I am just very picky about the quality of my smokes, if anything, I get bitched at for throwing out a bowl that I think has gone bad when other people think it is fine. Some of my apprentices in the dark side happy.gif are beginning to pick this up though. I have one friend I have spent so much time teaching the tricks of the trade to that I most of the time have him set up the bowl, in exchange for a free smoke. I'm such a lazy bastard.

I make hookah minions all the time, but I do it more out of teaching than gaining slaves. tongue.gif

That is always the coolest feeling when someone walks into your room, takes a hit off of your beautifully packed bowl, and falls in love with your abilities....

That happened to me the other day. 2 guys at a party both complimented me on my pack... Then one proceded to tell me how I should be moving my coals around, took the tongs, and did it himself. I gotta say... That made me furious, but since I was relaxing with a hookah, the mad feeling quickly went away. All it took was another hit of AF cocktail =)

i would have been mad. since you didnt specify they were your friends then i will assume they are not. i would have been so pissed!

i have no problem with my friends messing with my stuff, but even they dont. if they say its this or that, i try and fix it.

Yeah that really bugs me when someone says they can do it better than you or that your doing a terrible job. Im still in that transition stage aswell. But two days ago i made a really nice bowl and the people with me said it was good. One was european, slovkian i think, and he said it was perfect.

They're more of acquantances(spelling?). But I still didn't like it. I'm pretty relaxed though, so I didn't get too mad over it... After they left the others commented on how it was a dick move, so I didn't even have to say anything. They just made themselves look dumb.

I reached the point of consistant good bowls. Every now and then I have a shitty bowl while trying a new brand but thats just getting used to the amount of heat I need for that brand. But, mind you, I have been using quick-lights. I am now at the point of working with natural coals.

I am hoping Snoopy will help me in my transition...(hint-hint)!

Yes the naturals with Tangiers is so great, pure bliss with the taste buds. I use to get headaches in the afternoon also, but I was using QL's. Now I have not had that problem, only when I first started with the naturals and lite them in my apartment and that just killed everything.

Oh yeah Zen great math exercise by the way

I'm still learning, but I'm really starting to get it down. My heat management is going really well now; I rarely burn a bowl, and usually know how much coal to add to get that thick smoke everyone loves. My main problem comes from packing bowls now.
