Contracted Out By Friends?

I am usually the guy to smoke with amongst my peer group, due to me always being loaded with shisha and new stuff that I am trying out, and that transfers over to several times a year I am extremly busy hooking up friends parties with a little side entertainment to compliment the booze. I had several requests this year, but I decided to do a smaller New Year's party with an older friend, and hook him up with one hookah per room (I shudder to think at the shisha cost.... ugh....). Sometimes I think I should charge for it, considering how much it costs me... So how many of you are contracted out by friends for big events to provide the smokes? How do you deal with the expense? It used to be pretty cheap, but as more people join me, and ask to have me hook(ah) them up (I made a pun), the expense just keeps climbing. It has always been pricey, but... its getting pretty bad. I spent 200$ on shisha this month. Thats really fucking bad.

I can't say that I've done anything of that caliber, but I've been called up last minute plenty of times for "Hey, can you bring your hookah over here? We're having a party" at 2 AM when I'm trying to sleep.

You must really love your friends to be sharing $200 of shisha with, I'm assuming, nothing in return. If I were you I'd probably ask them what flavors they want and let them know how much it would cost in the nicest way possible when the cost hits that level. And thats just shisha, not to mention the drop you probably put on coals.

I loan my stuff out all the time, though. Last night at our little get-to-gether I gave them 3 50g packs of layalina, and about 7 rolls of 3 kings. Thats about $25ish or so with inflated smoke shop prices, but we all share our shisha, so I don't complain. Its the people who I used to share my shisha with that really pissed me off.

I would leave my stuff at my friends appartment, come back, and all of my shisha and coals were used, and I'm talking about 250g tubs. When I walk in the first things they say are "Hey, can you go get more stuff?". After 3 occurences of this, I made them cough up some money for smoking my stuff. They might get mad, but I just mentioned "Well, I guess we're not smoking then" and the wallets quickly opened up. Edited December 30, 2007 by Bryantos

I think my problem is I have bent over backwards to hook my friends up for so long, they have begun to assume it will always be there for them for free. I just assumed this was a problem everyone had. Turns out... not so much I guess. I'm going to just start requiring people to throw into a tobacco fund pot every time they come smoke. Hopefully this won't result in me being a lonely smoker

i get the tobacco for free (for the most part) and since i am supplyin a daily supply of tobacco to my roomates, i make them buy coals, hoses, and any other supplies

I am the "hookah dude" as well, but I don't mind as not many of my friends smoke, and I usually limit them unless they wanna pitch in on it. I'd say any given smoking session though is done with my small like 12g bowl so we never smoke a whole bunch at once.

Well if you love booze i'm sure they'll give you that (i doubt they are lacking in that regard).

What i do is say "No i won't come" and then they realize that about half the people at the party are there for my hookahs, so they beg me, and i charge 20 bucks an hour. They all manage to pitch in surprisingly... They ask for cash from their friends, and there's always new people to pay.

They are always drunkk.. easy money.

i'm the hookah guy at my friend's new year's party, too. all i'm going to ask is that they booze me up, or something. i'd say that's a fair trade. i'm not going to be supplying fuck-tons of shisha, though. just one hookah and it's a smaller group, so that won't eat up too much shisha, i hope.

well a bunch of friends used to meet at one guys house and I always used to bring over the shisha (not the hookah though) nd coal. the people (annoyingly enough, not the host himself) always used to give me a glass or 2 of jack coke.

Hah, make them go to a hookah bar and pay 10-15 bucks a bowl, they wont mind paying you 5 bucks a bowl then lol, see all the people i smoke with have gone to hookah bars and think im giving them the best deal and the world, i usually just try to stay even with them, i mean im enjoying it too, and a free bowl here and there is cool, its no fun smoking alone. and think about it, 250g = about 10 bucks, most people use maybe 10g in a bowl divide 10 bucks by 25, price per bowl = 40 cents, lol and 10g is a better nice size bowl lol, all the people paying 10 + at hookah bars.

well what it you buy sb or others that are 20 bucks for 250g, its still under a dollar a bowl lol, i never complain about shisha cost, most fun i have for an hour for less then a buck lol. Edited December 30, 2007 by zeppyrkr

i hate it especially since normally people just stop by my house and ask to hookah i cant be like give me 50 cents but it adds up. Just bring only a hookah and be like woops i dont have any shisha wanna go grab some for me.

I guess I am kinda "hookah dude" . When I go to friends house or when they stop by they always ask me to pull out the hookah if I havent already. But that is cool with me. I love smoking with friends and new people.

I would be worried about all those drunk people around my hookah. Could just bring one or two hookah's and keep the cost of shisha down.

We have alot of customers like you The Hookah Guy. They all do the same thing Some for cash. Some have opened up rolling lounges doing events parties etc... Here at the shop people will pop by and smoke with me. I have extra bowls made up and they will walk up and head for the hookah and smoke a bowl if its lit. If not they usualy ask if I want a fresh bowl. Most of the time I am sure some times I will be all smoked out by the end of the day 10+ bowls. And just tell them to light a coal grab a premade bowl and have fun. But i can`t say they come in just to smoke. They almost always walk away with a bunch of stuff.

If it were my friends/ Mooches I would grab some cheap stuff maybe even outdated for the moochers and be like yea smoke a bowl here ya go and toss them some Rose or stale Blueberry. We lay extra stuff we are blowing out on the counter. And the Hookah guys get it cheap or for free just to move it out of the shop here and they pawn the garbage off on friends. lol
