Canon
http://hookahcompany.com/wood_iranian_hookah_672_prd1.htmQUOTE Here is a 26 inch hookah from Iran. It has a traditional glass with a hand carved traditional ghayloon. It is hand carved on a spindle and then lacquered for a beautiful finish. The head is a metal tombeik style head. The wood in the hookah helps filter the tobacco and will give a slight wood taste the first time it is used. The head is packed broken up and stacked high. The coals are then placed directly on the tombeik. The smoke is much harder in taste and is really harsh the first minute, but when it gets going, you can really taste the difference in the regional flavor of this fun social smoking device. The vase is hand painted in the heart of Tehran and features the former King of Iran before ousted from power (1906). These come with wood tipped hoses that are also part of the Iranian ghayloon experience. This is a hand made limited quantity hookah, each one is slightly different, hoses and heads may vary in color. This hookah is not recommended for standard mass'eel smoking as it is not as air tight as a modern model.thanks
RayVer
I think this is for smoking tombac tobacco and not shisha like most of us are used to.
Cybersist
One method of smoking was to lay the coals directly on the tobacco. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wanna say Northern Africa, as well as other places, were/was known for this. Its a cool piece, and it would defiantly start some conversations...looking to get it? Johnny_D
You can also buy it from nahkla. It's called 'zaghoul' And it's basically as described above. Throw it in the bowl and just put the coals directly ontothe tobacco and smoke again. It's Old Skool and Hard Core smoking!

mushrat
JD's got it right. I actually serve Zahg at the lounge, sold 2 bowls of it last month. It's like smoking/inhaling pipe tobaccop or a cigar. It's fun watching people kinda wobble out sometimes if they aren't used to smoking stuff that strong. Then again I get guys who smoke a whole bowl down without batting an eye....It's tastes good, but man is it STRONG!

LebanonPride
yes it has a plain tobacco flavor - people smoke this in india a lot i believe - and it's popular with the old timers lolits good if you like to have an occasional black and mild - nice pipe/cigar style smoke. you could probaly flavor it yourself if you wanted.. RayVer
its not exactly like cigar taste... its got a different flavor to it.The stuff if cheap. Locally I get the nakhla zaghoul for about 4 bucks for 250g. Only tried it once...real strong stuff. You'll need an aquired taste to smoke it. I think everyone should try it atleast once. ZenSilk
No, Tombak is the only Tombak you can really buy. You can even home-make mu'assel out of it if you want i believe. here...http://www.hookahcompany.com/isfahan_tombac_1247_prd1.htmThat's one type. Coals go directly on top as stated before. And, as you probably guessed, it smokes harsher and you get a heavy buzz, naturally.
Codename067
As mentioned, no flavor. Charocals lay right over the tobacoo. For old schoolers. We have tons of the Tombac. My dad used to smoke it alot. He slowly switched to flavored tobacco.Edit: Yeah, like Zen's post above mine, we have similar Tombac, made in India.
