Computer Sound Issue

I went to turn on a movie last night and randomly my sound cuts out. This is not the first time this has happened. Last time I was able to figure out the problem, but I do not remember what I did. I've been trying to fix this now for a couple of hours.

What I've done so far:

- check audio drivers. Both AC'97 and HD audio is in place and working properly. I have on-board realtek hardware.
- disconnect and reconnect audio cables, no success.
- made sure Windows was using the drivers for output sound, everything checked out.
- redownloaded the newest drivers and installed them, no success.
- check that the speakers actually work, and they do.
- made sure my audio hardware was seen in BIOS, its all good.
- Dxdiag is coming back with no hardware errors.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Shuttle barebones, Nvidia 570i MCP mobo (or so the site says)
2x 1Gb Corsair 800mhz XMS2
250gb harddrive
500gb harddrive.

Thanks in advance for any help

Glad you got it working... but...

Did you check to make sure it wasn't muted? tongue.gif

I've done that before. Tried all the complicated crap I know how to do, and it turns out it was muted. Was slightly pissed, but happy my sound was working again. rolleyes.gif

Well actually it turns out that after testing the hardware and reinstalling drivers, the power cable to the back of my sub somehow got disconnected, so when i went to turn on the speakers, I was very confused and worried.
