I have a passport solo s2 and it works real good.... but radar detectors gives u a false sense of security cause even tho they detect lasers by the time its detected ur already gunned...... mine has saved me plenty of times but i got ticketed by a laser its just too quick

The "best" two on the market or most popular right now are the Passport Escort and Valentine 1. They are equally as effective but the Valentine one gives you a direction the radar band is coming from. Consequently, the Valentine 1 comes at a higher price. I personally have the Passport Escort and it has saved me many times in the past 3 years. The directional feature, to me, seems like overkill because once I see Ka band flashing at me I slow down no matter what direction it could be coming from.

One of the biggest issues with radar detectors is getting into the habit of turning it on. The best thing to do it hardwire the detector to your car's main power so that once you turn the ignition on the radar will turn on. Another thing is the proper location to mount it. The best location to mount the detector is above your rear view mirror in the center of the front windshield. This gives the detector maximum view of the road ahead and also behind you. This location also keeps it out of sight of the police if it is illegal to own one in your state.

As TheOneNonlyTK said, nothing will save you from LASER since it is instantaneous but you will notice that Paramedic use LASER to change traffic lights so at times you may get false alarms.

My advice is to not get a cheap one because if you do in fact speed quite often it is worth the extra money to buy the most accurate detector. Also remember that sometimes you have to pay to play and if you plan on speeding, it comes with the consequence of higher probability of sending the government a nice chunk of change.

What car did you buy?

id go with a lazer jammer if aswell. from what i know its not illegal to have one because its transmitting in light not radio waves. (its illegal to have a radar jammer)

i have a decent radar detector, its a few years old but recently its saved me so many times.

heres a funny story about my detector.

when i was driving.. i put my detector on the window and it fell off so i put it back up there.. after about 3 hours (passing several cops [yes there were cops on the side of the road 'watching' traffic]) i start to wonder why my detector never went off, i mean i went through several cities and passed cops going 90 in a 70. i didnt get pulled over and my detector never went off..

turns out that it was turned off when it fell and i had to turn it back on..

point of story is, if your too cheap to buy a detector just put something that looks like one on your window so cops see it and dont pull you over.

Get a Valentine 1, its the industry standard. I don't have one, but my friend does and it works wonders.

yea until the cop uses fu**in instant on and you are doing 105 in a 75 and lock the shit outta your breaks lol..

i got down to 88 before he clocked me and the radar went off

verdict: 246 dollar ticket.. screw the wisconsin state PD

i'd still buy a v1 tho.. most cops aren't as smart as the one tht got me

uh, i had a lady cop tell me that if they even thought about giving you a warning, they discard it if they see you had a detector cause that's your warning.

they have saved me a few times but even with regular ol Ka band (never laser) they have got me.

if you come over a hill and they are looking right at you you're done.

I have a passport escort and since I got it I havent got any tickets, before I had one I got 3 tickets in 1 year. It was the best purchase for my car I have ever made. While laser is instant you will sometimes have a split second to slow down, which will save you if you slam the brakes when you hear the loud annoying laser noise.

haha, no, 8 points.

different violations give you more or less points.
