Purpose Of Lemon Juice/baking Soda

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question - I used to soak my hookah regularly in lemon juice/water and scrub with baking soda ... usually after every use ... the last few times I haev only rinsed with hot water and used a brush ... other than the fact that the reduce the smell of flavours/smoke, do the lemon juice/bs serve any other real purpose which would affect the smoke??

Thanks.

It helps reduce the crap that sticks to the wall of the stem, when there is less residue from the tobacco on the wall of the stem, it decreases the flavor tainting and keeps it cleaner in general. My untested theory about cleaning hookah would be to hold the bottom of the stem, pour in some soda, then pour in baking soda, then more soda, cover the top and shake. The acid in the soda should release any residue left from the tobacco, while the banking soda makes it nice and fresh. I think I am going to try this in an hour or so, so I should have some more info soon about it.

Try this

brush stem and rinse with hot water. alot of crap came out, think its clean?

now brush with baking soda and rinse with hot water, alot more crap just came out when you thought no more could possibly come out. still think its clean?

now brush with lemon juice and then rinse with hot water. After the above 2 steps, the lemon juice still manages to take crap out.

This is how i clean my hookah everytime.

Wont it rust any part of the metal that isnt protected by chroming?

My hookah hose port on the stem looks like it's 2 pipes, one on the inside then the surrounding one thats chromed. There is an area between the 2 that isnt sealed. That normal? If I tried to wash it would it rust on the inside of the exterior pipe?

im not to sure if it would rust. what i do is after i finishing washing it, i shake the stem around to get all loose water out of the cracks and towel dry it and then let it sit outside in the sun for a couple hours. So if you were to dry it immediately, i dont think it would rust. You can also try to tape the hose part so you dont get water in it...
