Open A Hookah Bar In Toronto ?

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that there are a few hookah bars operating in Scarborough and I get the feeling the government really isn't sure what to do about them and also not sure how/if they should tax the tobacco. I don't hear much talk about them in the news but they seem to be operating as usual in the typical quiet way they did before the smoking ban. The hookah bars in the Toronto area have never been as mainstream as let's say in California and for the most part consist of ethnic persons such as Egyptians. I'm sure if someone wanted to open a large mainstream hookah bar with drinks and food and entertainment it wouldn't be easy if not impossible due to smoking laws. It seems as long as the bars stay small and make the majority of their income off of selling shisha and renting pipes then the government looks the other way. The Canadian governement would never want to cause a scene and deprive immigrants of their cultural ways but as soon as everyone is doing it things will change. I'd love to see some large mainstream shisha bars in the Toronto area but I get the feeling that it isn't going to happen... Edited by adamjames

What are the best bars in toronto. I'm from right across the lake and want to try one out when I visit next.

I know there are a few bars scattered throughout the greater Toronto area but there seems to be a decent concentration of them in Scarborough which is in the east end of Toronto. There are no less than 3 hookah bars and at least 2 stores where you can buy hookah pipes and shisha tobacco on Lawrence Ave between Warden Ave and Birchmount Rd. The most mainstream bar in that area is called Oasis Juice Bar http://www.oasisjuicebar.ca/. Most of the other bars are smaller and usually only have specific types of customers but they are still very friendly. The smaller places are where you'd want to go if you want a more traditional experience. There is also another decent bar on Kennedy Rd just north of Lawrence on the west side. From my experience Oasis would be the best place to go and last time I checked they were still in business.
