Problems With Charcoal

Recommended Posts

I tried posting this earlier today but I couldn't find the thread upon returning later. Sorry if it was moved or deleted from this forum, I don't know where else I should post it. If it doesn't belong here please move it.

I recently purchased a 1 kilo bag of Al-Ajdad charcoal. They come in long cylinders about 1" in diameter and 6" in length. I've been breaking them into chunks to fit on my bowl and lighting them on an electric range coil. However, I'm having problems getting them to burn properly. They light ok on the electric coil and once removed they continue to burn but they burn poorly. They burn unevenly, they don't burn very hot, and they contain large chunks that will not burn at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong or do I have 2 lbs. of worthless "coal" on my hands. Any help would be much appreciated.

Are the coals still black when you take them off of the burner? Make sure they have a grey coat around them before you put them on the hookah bowl.

In my opinion just throw them away if you like a natural coal get some Exoticas. They are a pain to light like any finger coal bt they sit flat on the foil and best of all they burn nicely.

As for who carries them there are many shop/ vendors on line that sell them.

I still like my 3 kings though I am just lazy.

Yeah some coals just suck. if your gonna buy Naturals, buy Exoticas. H-S sells them now. And every single other place does as well. Just look for the cheapest price (which i bet is HC because of FedEx shipping, which is also the fastest).

AA coals are not bad. Get them fully grey first, and make sure you get them gray then RETURN it to the burner for another 1min or so. They ash like hell, but they don't add any taste at all. Exotica's are nice though.

i LOVE Nour coals, which i am assuming are made by the same people as al ajdad, since htey come in the same exact bag. some1 put me in my place if im wrong

when i light nours, what i do is take the cyllinder, split into 3 even pieces. i light 1/2 of hte coal fully on a gas range stove, and just plug away on my hookah.... never had chunks that dont burn... dunno what to tell you. is your electric range getting hot enough?
