Mini Hookah Heat/harsh Hits Issue

Recommended Posts

I just don't know what to do anymore.

Sometimes it hits ok, sometimes it's awful and harsh. I have a mini hookah, and quicklights from H-S. Since it's so small I only use one coal most of the time and it's fine, heat wise, but my coal stays black on the bottom, if I flip it before it gets white on top (sometimes it NEVER looks like it relights, but it is hot) then the bottom goes black before the top even gets ashy again.

I've had better results flipping rarely, but what can I do? I used 2 broken up around the edge of the bowl, but even that caused very harsh hits. Other wise my setup is fine, I'm at a loss as to why it's so harsh sometimes, and I have a strong feeling it's the heat.

I light one until it stops sparking, lay it on top and wait for it to get full on (the bottom never gets "full on" it seems)

Any ideas? I'm frustrated.

It sounds like you're not letting it get get grey all the way around before you throw it on your hookah.

Let is get its first layer of grey around the entire or most of the coal before you throw it on, or else it will taste like complete shit for most of the session.

ES, you're weird. I don't see how your bowl doesn't taste like poop. =P

Also, if its too much heat, then use part of a coal and not a whole coal.

The thing is I can't get it all grey, it's just not possible unless I can invent something that will suspend the coal in mid air and spin it, the bottom stays black no matter where I have it.

Have you tried blowing on the coal after the sparking is done so that the whole thing is glowing orange before you place it on top?

He is right. With QLS we light them with a torch lighter on both sides once all sparks are done we blow them on both sides ( down town thats $20.00 in a back alley) once both sides have went red once we drop them oon the bowl and then ad an aluminum wind cover made of foil. Once its going good we open the top of the foil. Also do you use a wide bowl? If not get a standard wide bowl That will make the perfect 1 coal 1 bowl.

I would suggest using halves of coals rather than a full coal. Use 2 - 3 and place them around the outside.

I usually prop up one end on the side of my screen too since its recessed. like ---_____--- (admire the skill with that picture) so that air can also flow under the coal.

I've been using a foil ring lately on my mini hookahs and haven't had any harshness since.
