Seaarching For A Firsrt Hookah

Recommended Posts

Well, I am new to the forums so hello everyone.

I have smoked hookah before with friends family etc and decided that it was time for me to buy a hookah.

I have been reading on reviews you have given on some hookahs, getting on ideas on what to look for and not look for, the hookah I am looking for would be a 2 hose, not sure what your recommendation would be for a beginner hookah, I am looking to buy a decent hookah for the first time, price range is not very limited if I am in to buy one, I want to get the silicone seals, diffuser, etc as well, but need some help on deciding what to choose.

I have seen my friends Syrian 3 Hose Chiller, very nice, but I don't need 3 hoses, possibly just 1 hose and if you can, convert it later to a 2-3 hoser, since it's going to be me and maybe 2 buddys at all times.

I have read up and seen people like the egyptian for first time users, the mya for partially more advanced, and then there are the more elegant hookahs.

If you have any advice I would love to hear, I am new to the community and am willing to learn.

Thank Youin Advance,
Scott.

You could really get any you want.

i would suggest MYA for a first hookah.

not that it's easier or better than others, but because of the autoseal and that you can add hoses.

Plus they have a lot of different styles.

search around on some of the sites, find something you think looks nice or that you would like and post it up in this thread and we will tell you what we think!

I myself am very new to this as well, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt please. smile.gif

Anyway, I went with the Bambino for my first. (Still the only one I own).

I think it's fantastic, affordable, and beautiful as well. Owned it about two months and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever.

Egyptians are the way to go for first hookahs. They are the easiest and most reliable to use and setup and get a good smoke out of. There how alot of people start and some of the best hookahs to this day are classic egyptian style hookahs.

I suggest SocialSmokeHookah.com for your first one. Its where i got mine, and its still going strong. Its a damn fine hookah and smokes amazingly well. If not SS, then Hookah-Shisha.com is where i do most of my other shopping.

I think Evanslight hit it right on the head. SS has good Syrians and Egyptians. Def spend the extra money and get a good quality piece. You get what you pay for with hookahs. Hookah-shisha is great for first time buyers also. I have ordered from them a couple of times.
And also as eternalsoil has mentioned, Some MYAs are a great hookah.

Feel free to ask about which ones you like. Also check the review threads on the hookahs. Alot of great reviews in there of some great pieces.

Bah damn typos I just noticed lookingover the thread, I apologize.

For the info so far, thank you so far for your input.
I am currently at work, but once I am off I will find a few hookahs im interested in and see if i can find reviews if not i will see others opinions with more knowledge and experience in the thread.

I have heard good things about the mya hookah type.
Once i get home like i said i will browse a bit.

Once i find a hookah, i know shisha is also a factor which starbuzz and skybuzz are two premium types i have heard but then there is the local al-w i forgot the brand thats usually sold insmoke shops but it seems to be lacking inflavor n smell areas.

Another question would be coals. Howdo you feel with quicklights compared to normal coals?
i had smoked mostly with quick lights but on certain hookahs seemed to burn the shisha rather then anything.

Im here to learn, so any knowledge would be helpful, i have been reading the faq's and other noob related questions so i dont ask repetive questions that have been answered before.

I use QL's mainly because i cant get my hands on naturals. it all depends on whats available/personal preference. if you're patient enough to use natural coals, you can't go wrong with exotica. if you want to use quick lights then you could go for 3 kings, golden coals or japanese style coals.

I will definately take the coals into consideration when purchasing a hookah online.
browsing on the iphone I saw a nice hookah, Mya Obelisk, didn'thave much time to search info about it but seems rather nice from www.hookah-shisha.com

My friend has a cheapy 30 dollar hookah he is gonna let me borrow so i can kind of get a feel on my own, I am going to buy a small container of starbuzz and compare it to the common brand shisha here and taate the difference and smoke difference.

only hookahs that can be converted from a 1 hose to a three hose with ease would be a Mya. All you do is take out the screw-in port plug, and screw in a new Hose-Port adapter found on multiple sites, mnhookah i believe is the cheapest with shipping factored in. mya's have great stems and alright bases... ask ASUSEAN about the bases, he's the pro.

I think a Mya would be best for someone in your position. not only are they a top notch pipe by reputation, but they are also the easyest to convert from one hose all the way up to a four hose should you so desire. Most people will tell you though, that a one hose with no autoseal will provide the best experiance, the autoseal from mya is best if you want to pump it to a 2 hoser. As for accesories, I would say get a difuser, a phunnel bowl, and a Nammor/Razon hose. Hope all that helps, and I hope I didnt echo everyone else too much.

So the MYA BASES aren't as good as others? Is there a reason for this if I could ask?

The frosted glass ones arent as thick as they used to be since mya switched glass suppliers. The cut glass ones however are still just fine.

Out of the ones you selected I would cast my vote for the Gyro. A bunch of people here have it and I have yet to hear a complaint. The Colossis is just too big in my opinion, but hey if you love it, than go with it, its just as good as the gyro. The Oblisc however, though I do really like the stem, doesnt impress with the vase. Especialy with all the concern about the frosted glass vases. Edited by Elky

I understand what you mean, currently just readings reviews, might go halves on a syrian 2 hose or egyptian, once I find a few more reviews find a decent one with my buddy for us, then I will order myself a personal one to bring over to friends houses.

when it comes down to it, hookahs are alot like madden...

no matter how much you play with the patriots, if your a nub, your a nub.

im not trying to insult you or your newness to hookah... what i mean is this--
while picking a first hookah is a hard choice, and a tough one to make, you are going to waste a boatload of time trying to perfect the fine art. My suggestion is find hookahs that you like aesthetically, and ask the community here whether or not its a good one to consider, or else everyone is going to shove their views down your throat (didnt really read many posts in this thread yet). so find some designs you like, chinese or egyptian or syrian, doesnt matter. keep in mind all hookahs will have hteir own pros/cons, and all seperate learning curves. so be sure to confirm here first before oyu make a purchase.

good luck!

Well, I bought a hookah, it's on it's way and I cannot wait, here is a picture of what I am going to be expecting..
It's a Khalil Maamoon, now to look for extra gaskets, official nammor hoses, possibly a funnel bowl, I have been reading on tangiers (spelling?) and have become more and more interested in it with the flavors being discussed, once I get the pipe, I will get pictures up as soon as possible.

I would like to thank everyone who gave me their input on hookahs and or any other knowledge inputted into the topic, so far I have learned quite a bit. If anyone has info on good seals or anything for the pipe or possibly official nammor hoses I would greatly appreciate it, off to do some more searching.

Cheers,

Milk With Pulp
Scott.

OKay I have to speak up on this. Ice chiller propaganda. Lets face it. The smoke it not hanging around in that tube. Its passing though as fast as you can suck it through. If you actually want to have Chill smoke ad ice to the bottom. Now there some cold smoke. This just makes the hookah top heavy when full. If the smokes passed all over the ice then it would work. But through a tube at 4 miles an hour really is not going to do much.

With that said but a normal hookah with a wide opening on the base and chill the water.
