zeppyrkr
okay so again i atempt to smoke my modern 15" solar from thehookah.com, ice in bass, packed bowl how i always do, and it still lasted about 15min which less then average smoke. I had to use rolland ql or something cause im out of 3k, would that be the problem? ive used these coals before and have been way more sucessful then today. but after this i thought for sure my pipe was a piece of you know what. so i pulled out the trusty traditional egyption ive smoked for months now, pitty smoke for 20min., i didnt think i did anything different then in the past, i feel like such a newb, im mean my first bowls ever packed were way better then anything ive done in the past 2 weeks, i dont understand? im hoping its the coals/hookahs, both are nothing special. i guess its hard to admit but it may be ME! EvansLight
Could be humidity, could be coals, could just be you XDMy bet is either humidity or the coals. I hate rolland with a passion, and stopped smoking until i got more 3k I was thanking god for JD who hooked a brotha up

Snoopy1966
Are the coals done in the 20 minutes? That could be the problem. I take it you are using a regular head? Are you using foil or a screen? Do you have to much water in the base? All of these play a factor in your session. If the coals are spent in that short time, it is the coals. I had some of those Rollands once and that is about how long they lasted.
zeppyrkr
the coals last maybe 30mins top, but after 20min or so the bowl is burnt and the whole 20min was nothing special, ive had decent sessions with rollands, just do 1 coal for 30min then another for 30min, usually got an hour out of the bowl with little charring at all. also i was using foil, with normal pattern and rotated the coal a ton, i would move it after like 5hits in fear of burning the stuff cause ive been burning it so ofter lately. also i was using a nicely packed bowl of juicy pharaohs Edited January 9, 2008 by zeppyrkr
PhishPhood
Make a vid of you setting up and packing it... Or atleast a picture by picture along the way. It could be your hole placement, not enough shisha, too much heat, all of these things contribute.
zeppyrkr
i was thinking about getting the Mya QT value pack on hookah-life, QT, 3 250g layalina, and box of 3k, 66 bucks or something, just making sure theres no discount code from the forum for hookah-life is there? ive only heard good things about the qt, and i need something small until i get my own place cause my hookahs are always on the move. what you think? i was thinking of the video idea and im going to try tomorrow to put one together, no making fun of me though lol. oolatec
First, I'd concentrate on getting things right with the setup you have, before you invest in more money. Like you said, it could be you, and just in case it is, a new hookah won't really help... that's just my 2 cents though...And instead of the QT, check out the Bambino... zeppyrkr
im still going to look into a better hookah, because im pretty sure thats playing some roll in this and if its not i know the qt is better then it but this is awhile away lol i have to pay some crap off, ugh
Bulldog_916
Get other coals and control the heat. I use a whole 3k coal on the bowl (rhyme x 3 ) then rotate it around once the shisha is warmed up. I pulled a 2.5 hour session out of those things just doing my method. Granted, it took 5 coals, but it worked well.
Ralleac
I hate Rolland coals. I have some fingers that are tolerable, but the qls aren't even worth smoking IMO. They can barely even keep my 10" mini hookah going for very long, and taste like ****. If you're burning the shisha straight through, a foil ring might help you control the heat better. There is a video on YouTube that shows how to make the foil ring, but I can't find it again. I thought it was on my favorites. I know its on the forum floating around, so I'll search for it and then edit or reply again. Edited January 10, 2008 by Bryantos
erufiku
weird, my 40mm golden ql's last around an hour. try another brand...edir: as to the foil ring... fold a piece of foil until it's kind of a long-ish line. join the two ends to make a ring. pack you bowl, put some foil on top and make a ridiculous amount of tiny holes with a needle. put the foil ring on top of that and more foil on top. this uppermost layer needs big holes, around 8-14. put a lighted coal on top and cover with a windscreen. keep pulling (it'll take some time till the bowl reaches optimum temperature). if smoke starts to get harsh, take the windscreen off. that's all there is to it.
