There's a couple of old threads around Gaia that clearly show a MYA rusted to hell.
My beef is MYA's refusal to deal with, or acknowledge the issue.

Oh I don't doubt that they rust... I've heard it from many people. I'm just saying that if you take elaborate and arguably compulsive measures to dry them out completely, you'll be fine. Hydrogen needs to remain on metal to rust it... remove the hydrogen completely and there's nothing to oxidize the metal.
