Deliver-A-Bowl
Hey, So I am starting a new hookah company in boulder and I was wondering what you guys think about it. It is called Deliver-A-Bowl, and it is going to be a hookah delivery service. Pretty much people can call up and order a hookah and we deliver it to you (full hookah, all set up, with 3kings coals to use), and then we come pick it up in an hour or two. We will also offer shisha for people that maybe just want to buy a bowl of a certain flavor to try it out. We are going to either base prices off of by the hour or by the bowl but they will be similar to hookah bar prices (around $8-$10) As of right now we have decided that we will only be serving starbuzz shisha since it is arguably the best and we want to make this as premium as possible. If you use premium products customers will come back, if we use cheap shisha sure we will make money in the beginning but no one will come back. We have not decided on a hookah we are going to use yet. If anyone has any suggestions for that, that would be great. We want something that is durable and rips really thick. Also if anyone has any cool ideas for stuff for us to sell with the hookahs (like tea, etc) or cool stuff to put on our website, any suggestions would be great. What does everyone think of this idea overall?

ZenSilk
QUOTE (ASUSEAN1 @ Jan 13 2008, 04:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>gas prices are too high. Hell Yeah +1.It's not a bad idea though, i would like to have a little service that lets me sample SB flavors. Maybe you should sell SB tins or AF tubs as well. And if I were you, i would deliver Curry... (but that's just me..)
Twang
Sorry, I just don't see this working/being profitable...But, as far as hookahs... Mya Acrylics? And a thumbs down to starbuzz.
Tati
I had a couple of friends back in high school who had a service called "two guys and a hookah" and people would hire them for parties. They provided the hookah, tobacco, coal, and maintenance. Im not sure how much they charged, but Im pretty sure it was reasonable...I think its pretty risky just leaving the hookah at a random persons house, especially if they dont know what they are doing...And if anything happened, you would get blamed for it, like for burns and stuff. Deliver-A-Bowl
I forgot to add some info. For the gas prices, the main group of students that we would serve live in this area called the hill. It is where I live so it should not be too bad driving around. I also have a diesel car that gets great gas mileage, and am buying a smart car soon so that will help even more. I currently run a photography business here in CO that is called Colorado Candids. We are a special event photography company that shoots many events, but our biggest market is the Greek market. Our website gets anywhere from 30,000 to 90,000 hits a month from students at every college in Colorado, especially CU in Boulder. So I have a pretty big advertising source for free so that might help in getting the word out. I think that boulder is a unique market and it being a college town and it just being boulder this is something that could work out. I mean we do have a company here called boulder baked that delivers fresh baked cookies (and milk) to drunk and stoned people at all times of day and night.... EternalSoil
this has been brought up and in many states you must sell tobacco out of a store. not your car or whatever.a way around this would be that they have to go to your store, buy the tobacco, then you come to them with the hookahs.. which is dumb cause then they might as well jsut have a party at your store. Deliver-A-Bowl
we are also going to have a simple contract that gets signed by the person when we deliver it that says they are 18, they are responsible for the hookah and if they break it or don't return it that we charge their credit card for it, and that they are responsible for anything that happens to them while they are in possession of it
Deliver-A-Bowl
we would be able to sell the tobacco to them out of our store over the phone and online. We just deliver what they order to their house. Hopefully this gets around that problem.
zeppyrkr
i think this could work in a college town, is there hookah bars near there ?
PhishPhood
Not a terrible idea.. But I think you will eventually get screwed.. Heres how I see it.College town, people love to smoke it starts out booming. After someone orderes 3 or 4 maybe 5 bowls over the course of a semester and decides its something they like, they will start to research it. Then they find, they've already spent enough money to buy their own hookah! They buy their own, and no more customer..Just my opinion... Now on the other hand if you opened a hookah bar with a delivery service that would prob work.. The reason hookah bars do well is because they offer food, drink and an atmosphere you dont get at your home... Honestly, thats the only reason I go. Otherwise I'd just smoke at home.. Thus bringing me back to my point of it not being cost effective to pay $8-10 a bowl in your own home
HookahDude831
thats too cheap, you have to charge for the hookah by the hour, have a safety deposit on the hookah, they can only rent the hookah if they buy your shisha and coals.
zeppyrkr
what official stuff do you have to through do have a real business like this, or can you just start putting up posters and doing it, thats what i dont understand, if you dont have to go through any legal process i would be very interested in doing this business myself. Deliver-A-Bowl
there is a hookah bar located close too. but what we hope is that people will rent from us so that way they can have it at their house where it is comfortable and with a lot of their friends. The hookah bar here is not "a lounge" it just has some places to sit.and we would hope that customers would come back because it is relatively cheap and they would not have to deal with any setup or cleanup at all. you just call and get it at your door. and if they do decide to buy a hookah maybe it could be with us or maybe they will decide to buy tobacco or other stuff from us. There are a lot of college student at CU 40,000+ and not only is this a college town but it is a rather large city on its own so we might get non-students as well. zeppyrkr
you will have to have some sort of charge for tampering with the bowl, somehow tape the foil down or something and if its tampered with in any way have a fee and maybe blacklist them from ordering, cause, 1 person does something illegal it will have left overs on your hookah, which would look very bad. clickhea
howd you come to the conclusion that starbuzz is the best?if by best you mean over priced, more stems than a garden center, and fake tasting flavors then yes its the best Edited January 14, 2008 by clickhea
zeppyrkr
yeah i wouldn't recommend your primary be sb, maybe offer many different brands?
Deliver-A-Bowl
ha yea every name of almost every company has a drug reference name: boulder baked, cheeba hut, fatty j's, etcyea in the contract they sign when we drop it off we were definitely going to put something in there that they will not use any illegal substance in it, and it would be hopefully pretty easy to tell if they didand starbuzz was determined to be the best because it is one of the only shishas that i have ever been able to distinctly taste the flavor in. Also it is pretty smooth and hits really thick. and it is overpriced for a reason, because it is one of the bests, and if it was too overpriced for what it was worth then it would eventually go out of business, but they are def on the upswing
