smidge
ok well ive been smokin quite awhile now, but recently i havnt been getting much flavor from my sessions. Im using pharaos shisha, and rolland quicklights. I pack my bowl almost full, not to tight and not to loose. im using foil shiny side down, with a bunch of holes the size of a push pin. With one and a half coals, and i get alot of smoke, but it tastes like fumes from the coal mostly. Please help, thanks.
MechAnt
Rolland Coals. End of story. I accept PayPal, personal checks, money orders, and credit cards.Seriously tho, Rolland quicklights are god awful. a better coals would have the shisha taste oh so good and a nice cleaning of the pipe will help even more. Rolland fingers are also teh suck.Aside from that, two things usually kill the flavor for me. Ash getting in the bowl, and charred shisha. jbean422
you should try the lemonwood or any other natural wood coals, they dont give you that coal taste
Luke69
Basically any coal but rolland. In reason...
jerrysalem
When was the last time you cleaned your hoses and hookah? Just to be on the safe side I clean them every time I use them, everything including the hoses, thoroughly. I got into the habit of this when I had a crappy 'deluxe' hookah from the crooks at smokinghookah, if you didn't keep it immaculate it was like you were smoking from a coal bin. The Devils Playground
Try some exoticas. They are cheap and burn clean. Also clean everyting first if that does not do it change coals.

In reason...Actually, I think the Roland finger coals are good imo The ones that come in a orange bag.http://hookahcompany.com/rolland_hookah_fi...s_2480_prd1.htmThey are superb coals, I swear. They ash finely and you don't need to ash 'em very much, maybe every 15 mins. and they are tasteless. The only thing that sux is that thing give off this bad woodish sort of smell WHILE lighting...After that, it goes away. But the great thing is, they don't crack or break easily when you ash them. These are my back up coals if my Exoticas ever run out. People aren't too eager to try these since their made by Rolland, but I swear that their 100 times better than their shitty quicklites and one of the best naturals you could ever find (besides Exoticas of course )Yeah, just make sure your hookah is THOROUGHLY clean. (hose, stem, everything) It really does impart the taste if the hookah isn't clean. It wouldn't hurt to use diff. coals either EDIT: Fixed misspelled words. MechAnt
Just pack the bowl like you would always, and light the coals. As they are sparking, stand them up on their sides so it allows for a quick light and even burn. Once they stop sparking, blow on them until they are red hot all around with no black. Smaller bowls could pull off using one coal (this is all while referring to 33mm coals, mind you) but I personally use two. on lying flat and the other leaning on it sort of like these symbols: _\ if you get what I mean. In the FAQ there is a picture of what I'm trying to say. This is all off center from the bowl. If you just plop them on the middle of the burn, prepare for harsh as hell smoke. Good luck
smidge
thanks bro. should i just use one piece of foil? or two. shiny side down right?
MechAnt
Personally I use one. Its all personal preference. Shiny side down yes. You may ask, why? Its cause the shiny side reflects heat.
Texico
thick foil: one piece. thin foil: double layer. definitely shiny side down.
