Applying For Hookah Waiter Job

Recommended Posts

Another good be for helping get the job is really knowing your stuff. Knowing how to setup a and get a damn good smoke, being knowledgeable about all the different aspects of the hookah will help as well. And also make sure you know about the lounge your wanting to work at, especially what the serve and any thing specific such as what kind of hookas they use, what type and kind of coals, etc.

Just being someone who knows what there talking about will give you a good advantage biggrin.gif

I would do that thing the annoying kids used to do in school...You ask those questions that show you know the answer, just so that you can show off a bit of your knowledge.

For example if they use Mya Acrylics just say something like "Oh are those Mya acrylics you guys are using? I've got one myself" or something like that.

Do the same thing with coals.. "Do you guys serve using quicklights, or do you use finger coals or naturals?"

Maybe something about how you know the importance of keeping the right amount of heat going.. "I was on vacation and went to this hookah bar one time, they didn't even come around to offer extra coals..."

I dont know, just making shit up as I go along but I'll bet saying atleast one of these will help out

i worked at a hookah bar for a while but the pay was crap because NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE but the foreigners that made up 90% of our business never gave any fucking tips. so i had to go back to my old gig at best buy.
either way they asked me if i had ever served and I said yes. they asked me how much i knew about hookah. i told them that i knew alot more than the average person just coming in for a smoke because i owned my own. so the owner started to throw questions at me. he made me pack a few bowls to see how i did it, made me serve him a hookah and tested me by having a few customers say surprise me with the flavor but dont let it suck.
also he told me to get more shisha out of the fridge....i stopped and looked at him and was like....why are you throwing out money by storing it in the fridge? he laughed and told me it was a test because the storage fridge he used was not plugged in but it was good that i knew how to store it.
he also wanted to see if i knew how to clean the shisha and what not. basic stuff overall.
if you have any previous server experience then its the same but throw in hookah and hot coals.
sometimes you have to be a hardass as well though
like i was constantly telling people they had to leave or couldnt smoke because they were underage. the kids that had to leave were usually being retarded and loud or were fucking with burning shit on the coals. basically unsafe things.

just be personable but i wouldnt expect big tips off of hookah alone. you need to get the people to order food and drinks.

the hookah bars i go to barely get any tips and its not the hookah people that get them, its the hot russian waitresses tongue.gif but seriously, I don't think i could kick out underage kids, unless they were being retarded or a police raid was coming (hell, I was an underage kid marvelling at hookah once...) i might be working at a hookah bar this summer...

if you are really in it for the tips, you should try this:

-put 4-6 single dollar bills in the tip jar before the place opens. by doing this it will show people that this isn't a jar for the pennys in their pocket but a jar to tip for the good job. I know some kid at dhuwan hookah who started doing it and he realized he was making atleast 20 dollars more a night Edited by ASUSEAN1

Coalition had some good points, as for tips it's establishment dependent. The first one I worked at on a bad night I'd pull $100, good nights would be closer to $200 in tips. This last hookah bar $75 was a good nite for me.... One thing I did notice is that the first hookah bar was mostly college kids and people not of Middle Eastern decent. The other was mostly Middle Eastern decent. I think this fact would prolly be something to take into consideration before you start workin there....

The problem is that by not kicking out underage kids indiscriminantly you risk getting the business shut down (granted, that depends on the legal age and your local law enforcement). It's happened to a few decent bars here in Portland.

I've worked in a restaurant for about a year now and my boss is pretty chill so i get to interview most the new people if I feel like it. Anybody that acts to smart is instantly rejected, if you work in a bar or restaurant they need to see that you will do what you are told above all else. If you are asked a question answer it fully but don't be that condescending asshole that thinks they already know everything. They don't get hired because they are harder to train and more expensive because they don't listen as much when they screw up. Try very hard to not come off as overly independent and too smart. But don't act like a shy dumbass.

yeah in fact the club under this lounge was closed due to that fact...since this lounge is close to where the police are stationed, underage kids tend to stay away from it at least...only things that made me, as a customer, want to go up to people and scream "GET THE FUCK OUT!!" were tourists being dumb...trying to move the coal with their hands, DROPPING THE COAL, almost knocking over the hookah, lighting cigarettes from the coal and being loud assholes are amongst a few...
