Pictures Of Mid-late 19th Century Hookah

Recommended Posts

Nice finds but these were not made for tobacco like AF or Tangiers

They used to smoke tombak (or tumbeik depending on where you come from) and tobamel. These 2 types are uncut (thus the huge bowls) leaves, 1st using molasses and 2 one using some kind of just haney). If you go to lebanon, this kind of tobacco is still serve at many place. Its like smoking a sweet cigar. Heavy, with a nice sweet tobacco flavour.( am not sure if what i tried was tobamel or tombak). You cant call it harsh.
It feels like smoking a cigarette , tastes like a cigar BUT IT'S A HOOKAH

These give you a huge buzz if you are not a regular cigarette smoker (am not and it was quite heavy). I'll give one advice. If you 've smoked nakhla and gave you a buzz Dont give this one a try

Nice finds.

And yeah, no foil was used back in the day. Charcoals were placed right on top of the tobacco. My dad's friend still smokes it this way...it is just simply disgusting. I took two hits, and it left a nasty taste in my mouth for that entire night. Then again, he might've been using a weird brand that tasted bad. Some Flavored tobacco taste horrible too so yeah.

I did not like it because I was so used to flavored tobacco. Edited by Codename067

Very pretty. Nice craftsmanship too although it doesn't look like it's held up over the years. Looks like a few puffs from that now would make you keel over lol.
