Just Got Back From 2 Different Hookah Bars

hit up steinway street in astoria queens tonight with a few friends

for those of you not familiar with steinway street its filled with hookah bars/lounges/cafes with middle eastern people.

Both bars over loaded the coals on the bowl.. and both times i had to ask to have coals removed.

Then when the guy comes around to change the coals, he throws another 30 on top of the bowl.

i just dont understand it. How are all these middle eastern men sitting around smooking burnt shisha.

Yea thats why i almost always take along a pair of tongs with me, they always seem to let it start burning. Remember, the traditional style has the coals right on the tobacco, and to them it might be too light if there not actually burning it. Luckily ever hookah bar i go to has been nice and not tried to destroy my throat XD

its so weird, i was sitting there looking around at all their bowls, and they all had tons of coal stacked up on it. They were just sitting there playing cards smoking burnt shisha, i couldnt get over it. The guy would come around to blow out the bowl before putting on new coals, and huge clouds of smoke would pour out. Edited January 17, 2008 by clickhea

I can tell you why. Its what they are taught. Also from the business point of view. If the people like you burn the bowls faster you buy more. Or be smart and leave. lol Execlent choice walking and saving money in the long term Kudos to you.

the hookah bar by me now give tongs, great decision if you ask me, they give you one ql on it, and one non-lit one in the dish. they become alot better over the past few months, now im going to show him my phunnel and see what he thinks maybe i can talk him in to selling them and maybe selling tangiers too but i shouldn't hold my breath, hes in it for the business and only the business. All my local lounges give tongs thankfully. They do a good enough job though. Just a little bit management is needed. Check out Social Smoke as they have keychain tongs! They are pretty freaking sweet. I got it for my friend and he loves them.

i have tongs with a keychain attachment but their regular sized so its a bit inconvenient... imo giving tongs to inevperienced people is a bad idea... 7 inexperienced teenage tourists, 1 hookah, tongs, quicklight coals, carpeted floor = fire

When I go to Hookah Bars, I TAKE my own Hookah. I ask the owner if he/she is ok with it, and I tell them that I will pay them a bowls worth, w/e it cost, and keep my hookah.

I sit there watching everyone watching my hookah lol.

same thing happens to me when i go out to hookah bars on mcdougal, way too many coals.
