alright this is what i think.

A. you can pack tangiers and it is never harsh. it tastes good every time and its not a hassle.

B. you have trouble packing tangiers.
i) cut up your tangiers instead and mix it with another brand
ii) or read all of eric;s set up instructions.. there is not much else you can really do and you must be doing something completely wrong but it is going to be difficult for someone to fix your problem unless you show them in person what you are doing. SO i recommend that every takes a trip to SD and visits Eric.. you will learn a lot and we won;t have any more of these threads biggrin.gif

I agree that I must be doing something wrong since most people seem to have good results, but I just wish I knew what. I've read the instructions posted both by other members and by Eric, and I'm as sure as I can be that I'm following them correctly. I'll load up a bowl tonight with a bowl of fusion set up as back-up in case I screw up again, and post some pictures of what I'm doing step-by-step. Tangiers isn't well-known up here, so I'm kind of boned unless I find someone nearby who can point out what I'm doing wrong. Edited by Ralleac

Eh, I threw a small layer of some water melon starbuzz over the top of the tangiers, and it's working out a lot better.

Sadly, the exoticas I bought add have about as much of an aftertaste as my jap qls, so I'm probably going to use them as back-up when I run out of the olivewood coals I have on me.

All in all, having a good smoke right now, though biggrin.gif It tastes like orange soda with a hint of watermelon. I'm going to pick up some orange fusion tomorrow to mix with this. Edited by Ralleac

now, when you say you are burning it and it gets stuck to the foil is it affecting the taste?

If that's the case then you have too much heat.

if its just getting stuck to the foil, there's no problem with that. mine always does and i have great smokes!

Try this out

It works pretty good. You definitely need more holes.
Set it up again, and make about 12 to 15 holes (toothpick size) around the out side edge, second ring about 10-12 3rd ring around the hole around 6 to 8. If you find it harsh still, poke one or two random holes.

You may need to acclimate it a little longer as well.

I'll try it. My friends are smoking the orange soda right now and think its great, so maybe I'm just a lightweight. It's irritating my throat a lot.

I acclimated it for 6-7 hours. Does it need more time than that?

That should be good for Orange Soda for the acclimation.
When you have a consistent smell from the flavor as you mix it while acclimating it, then it is good to go. This is my new rule. Brambleberry takes a good 15 or more hours. That stuff packs a punch though smile.gif

Yeah, it smells great, and tastes good. It just irritates my throat like nothing else.

I reset the bowl, and it's still bothering me a bit, but my friends are fine with it. The flavor isn't really as strong as any of the fusion, starbuzz, af, or anything else I have on me, but this is definitely smokable (ie., I'm not breaking into fits of coughing after each pull) I might order a bigger phunnel, though. This one holds like 20g. Edited by Ralleac

Eh, so I tried with Orange Soda one more time, and it still isn't working out for me. This was harsh right off the bat.

looks like the baccy is kind of dry. You mix it up in the jar before everytime you smoke right?

Yeah, I've been stirring it and storing it in tupperware. All of the tangiers I've received has seemed kind of dry straight out of the package, though. The instructions say to pour the extra juice into the container I store it in, but there's never been any extra. It's nowhere near as juicy as anything else I have on hand. Edited by Ralleac
