Ice Chamber?

Recommended Posts

I am in the constant quest for the ultimate in amazing smoke and was wondering what your experiences with the effectiveness of ice chambers between the stem and bowl has been. I have been told that the heat from the coals can simply melt the ice but i was wondering if the smoke is colder with an ice tray or if it's just a waste of time.

well, i havent used one but i have heard that the gain is not that great.

it cools the stem down which will hel a little bit, and assuming you already put ice in the base to get colder smoke i dont think you would gain much at all.

i do think that some of the ice chamber hookahs look nice.

I am working on a design I am seling Exotic imports. It has 3 generations worked out alreday. I will be safe to say its 300% better then that ice chamber system they have now. Basicly the smoke goes through a small tube at 40 miles an hour. How much cooling does that Ice boopx really have? Yea thats my point also. The design I have is much better and will cool the smoke alot more then ice in the base even.

Save some typing people and don`t bother asking what the design is. Its for sale but not for free.

Anyways I would say I will have iit made next week and will ship it off like a week or 2 later when all the bugs are worked out so a few months from now it should be on the market. If he does not buy it and does not partner in it I will go ahead and build them my self.

So it could be sooner then later if I do them. They will just cost more if I make them. lol

I just bought a KM with an ice chamber and I must say I was very impressed. I use ice and water in the vase and ice in the chamber. The whole stem stays cold thus allowing a cooler smoke. Pretty simple if you think about even if the smoke is going though at 40mph. If the stem is cold, the smoke stays cooler also. I have smoked for over 2 hours with this set up and there are still small chunks of ice left in the chamber and the stem is still very cold. I would say it makes a difference that is noticeable. I would be very interested in seeing what you have come up with Neal.

The stem definitely remains colder, but it's only slightly more effective. When I do both on my SS Syrian the smoke actually tastes chilled as I'm breathing it in, which doesn't usually happen w/ ice in the base alone. The chamber remains cold for hours, and adding in a bit more ice isn't that difficult. Edited by Ralleac

I purchased a Syrian hookah with an ice chamber from H-S a while back and it has been a great hookah. I definitely get a cooler smoke compared to just putting ice in the base. I always put ice in both the base and chamber, the ice lasts no less than two hours. I also personally like the way the ice chamber looks but some people don't. The Syrian Glyph from H-S is virtually identical except for the design of the stem and the fact the chiller obviously has an ice chamber yet is only $10 more. I personally felt that the look of the ice chamber alone was worth the extra $10, but again that's just my personal preference. The fact that it does actually help to cool the smoke more than just putting ice in the base alone was a bonus to me. The difference isn't HUGE but still well worth it in my opinion. I once left the hookah in my garage overnight and the next day there was still a good amount of ice left and decided to have a smoke. I found the smoke to be TOO cold! It was cold to the point it actually irritated my throat and made it feel numb. Edited by adamjames

Let me tell you a thing or two about Ice Chambered Hookahs.

Their purpose is not supposed to make the smoke cooler, that was never the intention, people just assume that with ice all around the stem, the smoke will be much cooler..very wrong.

The Sole purpose of Ice Chambered Hookahs is to KEEP the smoke from getting warm. I once left charcoals on the plate of the hookah instead of the small pan, and a good 10 minutes in, the smoke started getting warm, the heat from the charcoals on the plate was slowly moving into the stem and making the smoke hot. Heat can also be transfered down from the heat on the bowl.

Ever since then, I either put Ice in the chamber, and never kept charcoals on the place. Edited by Codename067

Ice chambers can help but not in keeping the smoke any certain temperature. It helps thicken the smoke, as it condenses more of the vaporized liquids from the tobacco into thick beautiful clouds. The thickest clouds ive ever seen were on a friends ice chamber hookah with my bucket of salted ice water method tacked on. Al Waha mint, Easy Lite coals, and enough ice in total to fill a damn cooler. Damn was it thick.

i use ice to make it cooler. its nicer that way. hell, sometimes i smoke with warm water in the base, because it just feels good sometimes. i dont mind warm smoke at all.

and as EL already mentioned, since hte water is cold, it makes the smoke more dense.

I can tell the difference. No its not so much that you have to have one, but the smoke goes in cold the whole time your smoking, and the ice in the base doesnt melt as fast. Ive always been the type of person that sees it as every little bit helps. Ive got a chiller, a defuiser, and a Nammor and my sesions are great, nice thick cool clouds of smoke. So for an extra 10 bucks or so, why not get one. When I bought mine last year I was thinking the whole condom cliche, Id rather have it and not need it than...

I absolutely hate warm smoke.

In the Summer, I used to clean my Hookah, as soon as I cleaned it, I would throw it in the freezer. Mean while, I prepare the charcoals and pack the bowl, and get ready to smoke away with a nice COLD beer [Modelo and Pacifico w/ lime n' salt are godly].

Edit: As for people saying that the smoke does get cooler, I have 4 Ice Chambered KM's, adding Ice was no where near significant. I don't know how you guys are getting cooler smoke. If the entire stem had chambers around it, then maybe the smoke will be cooler hence the whole stem is cold. I don't see how cooler 6 inches of the stem's worth [say the ice chamber is around that height] is going to make the smoke colder.

Its enough for me that It keeps the smoke a very smokable state. I usually apply the ice in the summer when the air is hot. Edited by Codename067

i dont use an ice chamber. i just use an assload of ice. believe me, i feel it. when i smoke the smoke is chilling, its amazing. i dont do it to get rid of warm smoke, since i sort of like warm smoke. i do it to be cold, because its nice as well. i can def. notice the difference without a doubt.
