My New Mya And Some Of My Opinions

Eh, Boohoo...

I never get a negative remark from smoking hookah. Most people don't even know where the hookah originates from, but they like to smoke it.

Also, Mya produces more of a modern hookah, not the the traditional hookahs used in the middle-east. If they supported the image whole heartidly and were fighting this unseen "war", like you seem to, then they would be making more traditional hookahs.

No offense meant but I looked at your age on your profile. It is one of the advantages of being the age you are that the people you come across are young and the young in general tend to be more open minded, looking to try new things and not be judgemental. About 20 years from now you will likely discover a different attitude among the people you're exposed to. It is a sadness of advanced age that we lose our tolerance and our curiosity. There are two recent instances in which the attitude towards hookahs were personally felt by me:

1) More than half the people at my work own and smoke their own hookah pipes. So we jokingly asked if we could bring them to work and smoke during lunch hours. We were told by our CFO that he wasn't going to have the place looking like a "Turkish den of iniquity". I kinda think from his remark he gets the middle east connection.

2) Comiing back from a job site visit a week ago, the truck let me out too close to the curb. I hit my toes up against it, lost my balance and dropped to my knees on the grass. Not at all injured of course, but right in front of the HR Director who yells out "It's all due to that hash pipe you all insist on smoking!" I kinda think from his remark that he has the wrong idea about what goes into a hookah.

Though I'm good friends with both my CFO and HR Director, they truly and honestly believe there's something wrong with hookahs. And they think we're crazy to associate with them or people who smoke them. They have no concept of the history, social aspects, etc. And since the western world isn't predominately in your age group, unfortunately that's the attitude many of us older smokers deal with day in and day out. Not that it's going to stop me smoking or collecting pipes of course. My name BoHo is because I'm an artist, very bohemian in nature, and like going against the common beliefs of society.

Now..... All of that political/societal "stuff" aside..... I'm not trying to convince anyone to not buy a Mya. If you love your Mya pipes and enjoy them more power to you. I'm glad to see anyone owning pipes and smoking them. Maybe over time with enough of us refusing to stop smoking we will eventually overcome the general stigma. At least I hope so. In the meantime, my stance on the subject is for me alone and stated for explanation of why I choose not to purchase one - not to bring anyone over to my side of the argument.

I'm female so you know I have to try and have the last word..... Enough with the politics! Everybody light up!

It get crap for being a Muslim also. Being an American revert it makes it all the more fun. smile.gif Its OK, I don't let it bother me. I like it when they tell me, go back to where you came from, and I reply, Chicago? That is when I am wearing my Thobe or Jilbab and my kufi. Great times.
