Homemade Shisha

Recommended Posts

So I'm pretty painfully low on sheesh, and my girlfriend suggested mixing up an emergency stash with pipe tobacco. Here's what I've thought of for ingredients so far:

- "Vanilla Heaven" and/or "Dark Chocolate" pipe tobacco
- Imitation vanilla flavor
- Molasses
- Crystallized sugar
- Honey?

Anyone have any experience with this? If it's not going to be smokeable, I'd rather save it for my pipe, but I really prefer smoking out of the hookah.

You'll need some gyclerin, you can get it from cooking shops

Wash the tobacco... Cooking flavors don't come out very well. LOTS of glycerin little of the others. Glycerin is what makes it smoke... I did trial and error and had the darndest time getting it to smoke with less glycerin or just honey and molasses.

I have yet to find a type of flavoring that will show up in the smoke when smoked.

I wouldn;t use pipe tobacco...its pretty harsh to inhale.

Try american sprit or some loose roll your own, or find some leaf tobacco if yu live someplace where they grow the stuff.

I have a friend who grows a small crop every year.

I wanna order some tombeik tobacco or Zaghloul and cook it down, then mix flavor, glycerin, and honey in. I think it might be somewhat good if you start out with something like tombeik.

They tend to be quite dry anyways..no need to cook em down.

Tombeik is EXPENSIVE though, I dont see why. It's mostly dry tobacco. If I were to make shisha from it, it would be premo, like 20 dollars per 250g container. If I could get the tobacco wholesale I might be able to do something with it, a small, home-based operation, but I dont have any connections. sad.gif

The pipe tobacco I have is pretty cheap -- that's why I was considering it. Makes no difference now though! I got my latest Hookah-Shisha.com order last night:

- 50g Havana Melon
- 50g Havana Kiwi
- 50g Havana Coconut
- 100g Hookah-Shisha.com Smooth Smoothie Blend
- Heba Diffuser

Back in business! Kiwi is good, Smooth Smoothie is fantastic, and I haven't tried the other two (on my way home from work in a minute!). The diffuser is great too; it makes the smoke a lot smoother and a lot less harsh, and I'm still able to get some pretty huge clouds with it.

I had an interesting idea. Buy a cheap brand known for not being so great, I had Afzal Vanilla which just tastes like well...nothing. That way you would only have to flavor and add glycerin. I have some experience with flavoring, after all I'm an exec pastry chef, so I may try it sometime.

I think homemade hookah tobacco is a fine idea...starting with pipe tobacco will get pretty expensive, though.

You can get some pretty good pipe tobacco for maybe 13-18$ a pound. Thats what I did. Just had a problem finding the oils or flavorings that would actually show up in the smoke.

I buy the tobacco wholesale for about $3/Lb...if you buy at least 440 Lbs. at a time.
