Ralleac
I'm a lazy agnostic. Agnostic because I don't really know who's right or wrong. Lazy because I don't really care.
Geiseric
By the way, I want to commend Jtownin for having the decency to apologize for his comment yesterday. I didn't want to bring the subject up again, but I wanted to make sure that it was made known that that issue was cleared up.
ZenSilk
Dang this thread totally took the left path instead of the right. In answer to the OP....I would classify myself as..well..nothing. Just cause i don't believe some dude (or chic) is up there just chillin, fucking with us, watching us die, live, succeed and fail doesn't make me agnostic or atheist. I rather nopt be labeled, it's petty. I think if everyone rose above this religion trash, the world would be a better place. Yet, that is impossible. People are foolish. I would make an intelligent response.... but I am too drunk. Shit. Stupid alcohol that tricks you by tasting like it has nothing in it. Damn you!*Sigh. I hate coming back to places and having to clean up the mess I made when I was drunk. This is why I don't drink often.Clever response, Gaia, but he has expressed his apologies, so I think we are all good again.*Possibly the most intelligent post in this whole bloody topic! ZenSilk
Religion in itself is much more intolerant than lil' ol' me. The Pope himself, in his first address to people this year, said that same sex marriage is a threat to world peace. I figure that i have a couple gay friends, who i love like brothers and support, so automatically i am a better person than anyone following that terrible man's doctrine. I am Intolerant of certain religions, the one's i have studied. They shant be named, but i view them as terrible scars upon mankind.
Perrj99
I can't say that I disagree....about certain aspects of specific religions...and some of their followers. It all depends on the person's interpretation of the religion, and it's text, I guess. Life. Comas, and, periods...lots, of, them.

The actions of certain individuals does not reflect on the society as a whole. Using that justification, you could excuse bigotry, but I really doubt I would see you openly write "I hate all *insert racial slur* because *insert random individual occurrence*"To call all religion trash is so unbelievably disrespectful... I'm frankly quite shocked that you would say such a thing. We are all entitled to our own belief systems, and religion has been a core mechanic in holding together societies for as far back as we have history. This isn't going to change any time soon, and the lack of a god figure in the popular belief system will not change the nature of people to fight over what they believe. Blaming the violent acts of individuals on their belief in a deity may be acceptable amongst the masses right now, giving them an excuse for their hatred of certain groups of people, but I have come to expect a certain level of academia and respect on these forums. This thread is proof that there is still a lot of work to be done.*edited with added quotes for clarity and tidied up a bit**Please, just be respectful of other's beliefs. There is a whole lot of diversity here, and your comment was rude to the majority of them.* Edited January 27, 2008 by Geiseric

JtowninAtown
Thank you Geiseric for your understanding. I said something I shouldn't have, and have paid for it. I gave my promise to gaia.plataeu, as I will to you all, to be more tactful in my response to the topics here. I really hope this doesn't make you guys think I am some kind of jerk. I promise I'm not as pompous and rude as I made myself out to be. It has just been "one of those days". Again, I truly feel bad for what I said earlier, and wish not to harm anyone with the insignificant things I said. Maybe I'll take a break for a couple days and give myself a "time out"... I'm sorry Edited January 27, 2008 by JtowninAtown
Geiseric
It's cool, it really wasn't that bad (at least what I saw, I didn't see the comments that lead to the ire of the mighty JD), hell its not even been 24 hours and we've already had a comment that topped it. *shrugs* I give up. Today doesn't seem to be the day for a friendly meeting of the faiths. Edited January 27, 2008 by Geiseric
Perrj99
After all of the bullshit in this thread, its funny to think of the simplicity of what it was supposed to be. I guess religion will always be too complex of a subject to expect such simplicity...It's hard to ask for such when it is something the majority of people base their entire lives around...whether "religious" or not. Theophage
I'd be an agnost atheist. I lack belief in god and am therefore an atheist, but I'm open to the idea of the existence of a higher power, should sufficient evidence be presented.Atheism and agnosticism are in no way mutually exclusive. :D
Texico
Most accurately, I'm an agnostic. If asked, I would say that I don't believe that a higher power exists, but I hope that I'm wrong in my belief. I've reached the point, though, where even if a supreme power does exist I would still consider life and existence to be fairly pointless. I won't go further, though, as I don't want to start another religious debate.

Atheists actively disbelieve in any higher power. "No one is as strong in their belief, as non-believers" - Someone important, that I can't recall right now. So if you're open to the existence of a higher power, you're agnostic. They are not necessarily exclusive... if you actively believe that there is no god, but are not certain about it, you can be called an Agnostic-Atheist. I think you'd be very hard pressed to find one of them... it strikes me that anyone with strong enough feelings to actively disbelieve in something that can be neither proven nor disproven, is very likely to be adamant/certain/stubborn about their position.
