Shakes
After these terrible 8 years under the Bush administration, it seemed that the 2008 election would, without question, go to a Democratic candidate. However, in light of recent infighting between Clinton and Obama, some political scientists, pollsters and voters fear that the much needed change of methods and ideals in the white house may still be out of reach. As much as it pains me to speak ill of Bill Clinton, his personal attacks on Obama (Not to mention the myriad insults and slander that his shrew of a wife spits) have created a great rift in the Democratic party. It is a damn shame that dirty politics hold the potential to deprive the American people of a chance to take a progressive step forward and leave behind its 8-year legacy of domestic adversity and global embarrassment. Lysolz
Unless....You vote Ron Paul.
Shakes
I agree with Ron Paul's platform (I was a Nader fan for the longest time) but just like Nader, I feel it's safe to say he does not stand a snowball's chance in hell of election. He can only hope to gather enough support on certain issues that whoever is elected takes up the cause.
Lysolz
There are hundreds of people over at the RP Forums that have stories about how half of the people they come across while canvassing say "I like him, but he doesn't stand a chance."Why vote "safely" in regards to electability? If all the people that said "Ron Paul's a good candidate, but he can't win" would actually vote for him, we'd have the cat in the bag.I started following him back in May, and even if his support hadn't grown and he was polling 2% I'd still choose him. Shakes
People who say they like Paul but understand his inability to win are simply speaking pragmatically. That is to say, it's unrealistic to hold out hope for him. Even if all of his supporters vote for him, he'll still lose. Hope begets hope.
Lysolz
I sincerely believe that his support is much stronger than people think, though.I'd say if the people that liked him but thought he didn't have a chance actually voted, he'd double his numbers. In some cases, doubling his numbers would give him a first place finish. He's come in second in two states already. He's got more of a chance than you think, but sadly this attitude will ultimately be his demise. Shakes
Either way, there's already athread where you can pour your heart into how much Ron Paul is, in fact "kicking ass and taking names." This thread was intended to spark discussion about political infighting, the politics of personal destruction and their effect on the election. However, I'm sure Mr. Paul is grateful that you've taken it upon yourself to dedicate 2 threads on hookah forum to him.
r1v3th3ad
I dunno about Nadar, just because he openly stated that he was just there to steal votes and offset things.I'm Pro-Paul and I agree about if everyone that says they like him, but wont vote him because he doesnt have a chance voted...Anyway, to go off on Ron Paul...If all that like him voted for him, maybe he wouldnt get it. However, he would be pretty high and it would spread his name more. Then next round, he would be taken more seriously and have a much better chance.I'm done on that...Now with the democratic party. I am registered democrat and I am becoming more and more disgusted. All it is anymore is a deformation of character battle. It sickens me. I've considered going Libertarian...I've seen first hand how dirty the democratic party is, my father was councilman in Pittsburgh for roughly 11yrs. Then he ran for county controller and it turned into an outright garbage dump in the battle. People paying off judges, sending their offspring to run against him for angst they hold for something thats not his fault. I dont really see this as bad with the other parties and yes, I am growing quite disgusted.Run while you can.edit: P.S. The Flaherity family runs Pittsburgh and they keep their places with dirty politics, theyre one of the reasons my dad isnt county controller.
