Starting this thread for any other techies out there.

Puffing on hookah while screwing around with a new router and playing CSS is just about my favorite thing right now

Yes! Call of Duty 4 is intense with hookah and everytime I find one while smoking, I get all excited tongue.gif

It tends to be a little too intense to hit it very often. I smoke when I build people's computers too smile.gif

I would play tf2 if steam would finish updating the game.

Still not sure what is wrong. I've tried just about everything on my end so I need to e-mail them about it.

EDIT:
Got it working! Not sure what I did though. Steam can be difficult sometimes. Edited by St. Goodypants

But the real question is: What settings can you run Crysis at?

He can probably play Crysis with all high settings with just acceptable framerates. Crysis is not a very well optimized game at all. He's using the 8800GTX which is the older architecture which is now surpassed by the new 8800GT and 8800GTS builds. Soon there will be a newly structured 8800GTX unless they opt directly to the 9000 series which is fairly likely. Quad core is not optimized by any programs yet either so that's moot as well. A-Data memory is par quality. I'd go Corsair, Crucial, Geil, or OCZ.

Yes, Nic, I'm jealous tongue.gif Edited by MechAnt

Memory clock isn't so much of an advantage on LGA775 as it would be with an integrated memory controller.
Like AMD's. cool.gif

You'd do better with a lower CAS latency. tongue.gif

An Undeniably powerful system, very future-proof. I've gotta agree on the video card though, money would have been better spent on a pair of 8800GTs or G92 8800GTSs for SLi than on 8 gigs of RAM and a GTX.

Kudos on those OC's by the way.

Here's my specs:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ (939) oc'd to 2.5ghz
1gb Gskill DDR400 running at DDR333 (But it scales with the processor thank you very much)
2x 7200rpm SATA2 80GB HDD 8mb cache each
2x Geforce 7600GTs oc'd to 610 core/1440 RAM

8gb of ram = super overkill and pointless. that is you would know that if you actually understood how computer components work.
you could of used 2 (or 4 at the most) of 1066mhz and saved urself about 500 bucks give or take a hundred.

still love the build though because its very similar to mine minus the ram overload.

you can run more than 4gig on a 64bit OS......of course you almost never need more than 4...but then again I tend to run 3 instances apiece of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

I'm planning to upgrade soon once I get the money.

8800 GT/8800GTS G92 (9xxx series if I don't get the money for a while)
Opteron 185
another stick of the same RAM
500gb Hdd (so that it's not as much hassle to run a RAID-0 in XP)

Eh, I'm a hookah smoking CS major. Does that count? laugh.gif

I'm slowly putting together the first decent PC I'll have ever owned. I've never had the funds before, and I barely do now, so I've been making some hard choices to keep costs down.

So far I have:

-EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS Superclocked (old architecture, sadly. I bought this thing like three months too early. Either way it should last me for a year or until I feel like buying another new card.)
-EVGA 780i mobo
-q6600 2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad processor
-2gb Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 RAM
-3 y/o Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 card that's seen the inside of 3 PC's.

The mobo, processor, and RAM were just ordered recently. I've been running the card on my current PC w/ a power supply I swapped in to keep up with it, but I'll be butchering that one down to almost nothing so I can put everything into a new case next week. After that I'm going to upgrade HDD and maybe think about SLIing another card in, or maybe putting another $100 on 2gb of extra RAM. That may wind up being too expensive, though. Edited by Ralleac

I'm still trying to find out what I need to update...since I got TF2 back in october, I've been getting a warning while I play up in the right screen. It reads, "Warning:OS Paged Pool Memory Low"

You can go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change and try setting the initial to 1.5x your RAM, and the Max to 3x. That's straight from the Steam forums, so you may have already tried it. Edited by Ralleac
