AmunRa
I just recently got a Mya QT, and for some reason, the same flavor tobacco tastes totally different in the Mya than it does in my bigger pipes. (I have a 22" Nile and a 32" Egyptian and the flavor in particular is Fantasia Strawberry)Does anyone have this problem or know what could cause that? Both pipes are squeaky clean. I'm guessing it might be he fact that the larger pipes filter a bit better or perhaps cool the smoke more because of the longer stem. Any thoughts? I use the same ammount/arrangement of coal too. SafeSearchOff
what do you mean by "different"?
AmunRa
well...It's wierd. It *almost* has a burned flavor, but not quite. It just has a different after-taste. It is a little more dry and smokey with the Mya pipe. Now, here's the odd thing...Tangiers tastes the same out of any of them, but the other stuff I have tastes different. I have several Fantasia flavors and some fusion...I would call the flavor more smokey than anything. I know that's a bland description, but it'd all I got. : /
zeppyrkr
sounds like you need to work on your heat management with the qt, i actually think i get better flavor from my smaller qt and bambino.

I don't think I've got the water fill just right yet, but it's about right I think. Should I use less coal with the QT you think?

zeppyrkr
hmm i going to make a safe assumption that there not top notch quality and say try it again with golden or 3k and see if you get better results. strange that you get good flavor with taller pipe maybe because the distance the smoke travels kinda loses some of the coal taste that is coming through with the smaller qt stem cause it travels less. just an idea. The Devils Playground
I smoke a mYa qt as everyone knows and I run my water stupid high. In fact right at 1/4 inch from the top of the main section so I can get a tighter smoke. IN turn I seem to be fine accross the coard on flavors and I smoke Mintos from Afzal and thats super dry. Try taking the water way up and see how that does for you. If they does not cure it do this Light a bowl get it going. Then right when everything is perfect on the big hookah rush the same lit bowl and hose to the QT and see how that does for you.

I haven't tried the golden coals with it yet, but that's my next plan. I use two pieces of the easy lites as I always do. It works great on everything except the QT. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest because the QT has a huge fan base but I'm not getting similar results.

The first time I used the QT, I filled it up to the first curve of the glass, and that was way too much water. It's worth a try though.
AmunRa
I have a phunnel bowl, but I can't get the damned thing to work with anything but tangiers. the other stuff just does not hit at all. I kept adding coals until I ot to 4 pieces, and I still got nothing.

sss8789
holy shit someone else thinks this too, my girlfriend always complains because every flavor has a taste that similar to another flavor (except AF mint) I noticed that awhile ago and a couple of my friends confirmed that it isn't my girlfriend and I. It isn't heat mang. and my QT is always clean and I have tried multiple hoses... always that taste...Edit- I have also tried four different types of coals and the flavor is still there Edited January 30, 2008 by sss8789

AmunRa
Thank you, thank you. I've had a lot of pipes over the past few years, and with the exception of the McTini there in the background, they have all been great. But the Nile...whoa buddy that one smokes great with any coal, tobacco, hose, ... Can't beat it.
