yota8
I just pretty much purchased my hookah, and am fairly new to the whole hookah scene...Anyways, im getting fairly thin smoke, not the thick smoke like the rest of you guys usually get.. and its starting to tick me off, ive tried everything.. i think it might be the coals though, ok so i would put the shisha in the bowl, all the way to the top, but not packing it.. then i would put the foil on it without wrinkles, and sealed tight... then i would put about.. eh 15 holes about not that big either... then i would light the coal, let it ash over so i dont breath in the bad stuff and set it on there and let it cook for a min... then i would smoke it... and its really weak, i also have the right amount of water, about an inch above the stem... i just cant figure it out, i think whats happening is my coals arnt burning hot enough and it builds up alot of ash so i have to drop it on the ash tray to get rid of it... but sometimes it doesnt get rid of all the ash... ughh please help

datsyriankid
that smoke is kinda thin yea, you just need more coals, or try a diff shisha brand add another coal and even if it is harsh just see if you get thick smoke with it, and then if you still dont, then it's your shisha. oolatec
Try a windcover then... and another full or 1/2 coal... however much you can handle. It all comes down to experimentation. Everyone is different, and every brand of tobacco is different too. Some brands you will get real thick smoke, some you won't etc.

Codename067
A quick note regarding thick smoke.Usually, in most cases, the thicker the smoke, the less the bowl is going to last. Thick smoke = lot of shisha heating and burning. brand of shisha matters a lot too, the more molasses/juicy the shisha is, the thicker its going to hit.My small funnel lasts no more than 2 hours with 4 medium to small sized charcoals on it at all times. it starts hitting really nice less than a minute in, and stays that way for at least an hour, and after that first hour, it slowly, slowly starts going down hill. the last 10 mins is when my phunnel starts dying out.so try figuring out your heat management, buy juicy flavors, al fakher, layalina, starbuzz, and your are bound to get thicker smoke. once you nail down a few simple techniques like these, you should be able to make almost every hookah hit nice.Edit: I actually bought that lemon just today, my favorite lemon. not intense on molasses but its great mixed with mint. So your saying that the first hits when it first starts to cook are truely the only thick ones? i really need to try the 2 coal thing..Ya haha i just bought that lemon today also... hella bomb, im really going for all the flavors i can... 6 bucks for 50. mg when in tacoma wa is only 3 bucks... So far i have had.. double apple, lemon, blueberry, peach, jamacian rum, black berry, strawberry... i never thought about mixing em.. to scared to get a bad flavor... ehh i really need to figure out how to clean the hookah correctly... all i do is just run water through everything besides the hoses, and blow through the stem to dry it out...Usually, hookahs start hitting nicer 5 minutes in, thats the "break in" time for the bolw to get really warm and start burning the shisha. Not every hookah will hit great off the bat. mine does, someone else's might not. if your hookah starts hitting really nice a minute in, its going to stay nice for a while if you manage your bowl heat correctly. even with regular heads. phunnel bowls just last longer.see if you can get your hands on al fakher and layalina. for all your mint needs stick with al fakher, for fruits, turn to layalina.gotta hit the hay now, got a class in...6 hours take care Edited January 30, 2008 by Codename067

jfaltous
I just skimmed over all the responses, but basically it seems to me that if you want thicker clouds, you need to do one or all of the following:-get different shisha, something juicier than Nakhla.... however I smoke Nakhla sometimes and can easily get thicker clouds than you're managing...-get more heat on that bowl, try the windcover (and yes, it can get VERY hot, use caution) or try adding another 1/2 coal... alternatively you can try poking a few more/bigger holes-get a different bowl, something thats bigger/deeper that will allow you to put more shisha in and thus cook more to get more smoke-get a higher end hookah... i think i saw in another post that you spent $60 on that one (maybe it was someone else, looked like the same rig..?), but for $70 you can get yourself a beauty of a MZ, or if you can afford a bit more then a KM or even a Mya. gibberish
might sound daft but are you sure your pipe is airtight?
ahwahoo2006
QUOTE (gibberish @ Jan 30 2008, 03:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>might sound daft but are you sure your pipe is airtight? This, as well as your hose. To check, remove your hose and plug one end with a finger and blow into the other end. If you hose is ok, plug it back into you hookah, keep the bowl off, plug the top of the stem with a finger and suck. If you cannot inhale, then it is airtight. If that is ok, then put the bowl on, cover the top with your palm and try to inhale. Other solutions: -Rather than using one big coal, use lots of little pieces, which you can keep adding to the bowl to acheive good heat management-try poking less holes in the foil. I typically only make 14 in the shape of a #.-try different brands of shishaGood luck!
yota8
I got it working pretty darn thick I bought some different coals yesterday, well pretty m uch the same just a lil smaller, and i added 2 this time... ohhh yahhh plus when i bought ther hookha it was brand new, and i cleaned it one time and lost the little vaulve balls they put in where the hoses go, and i usually just smoke by myself so i just filled it with a crapload of aluminum foil so its fairly air tight... but ya, all is good
