Bulldog_916
Is it normal to not be able to take full hits of Tangiers without coughing? I'm still relatively inexperienced with this brand. I laid the whole batch out to acclimate for 5 hours, this method is Rayver's method. Kept everything pretty much constant in the garage. I cant seem to get this acclimation thing right. From what everyone has said, they were able to leave Orange Soda out for a minimal period of time while acclimating and still got a comfortable smoke. What am I doing wrong? mdl
What type of bowl are you using. If you're using a funnel bowl, try packing more tobacco into it.
austinthecity
After acclimating, if you're still getting harsh hits try one of the following or a combo:Bigger holes in foilLess heatMore tobacco
MechAnt
Bigger holes (many use an oyster fork which pokes perfect holes consistently and quickly). More tobacco is always a fail safe. Sometimes less heat is always desirable. All these things vary by what bowl you use. I use the standard MYA bowl which needs very little heat, about two tablets of Japs or two 1/2 inch fingers. Trial and error!
Snoopy1966
You might have to acclimate it some more. I just put mine in a glad container so you save all the juices and makes for easy storage. That way it is easier for me to stir it up while acclimating. TheOneNonlyTK
i have the same problem with my orange soda. i use a large phunnel and i have tried more shisha and less heat but with less heat i get poor smoke and no difference with more shisha... the only thing that has worked was more holes and then it isn't always guaranteed. But its just too good of a flavor to not smoke
Bulldog_916
I poked large holes, one big ring around the outside, one ring on the inside, near the funnel hole, one ring of smaller holes around the middle, and one big hole in the center. I overpacked the bowl like everyone has suggested. It was about a quarter of an inch over the top of the bowl. Tried less heat with 3 1/6ths of an exotica around the outside. Nothing seems to be working. More acclimation I suppose?
MechAnt
Yea, try more acclimation. It really varies, just keep at it until its just right.
boulderkid303
Do big holes ALL OVER the bowl. Make sure you poke the hole till you hit the bottom of the bowl. You shouldn't have to let it sit out more than 3 hours, atleast Ive never had to in my experience with tangiers.
timmediahOU
pack more (slightly above the rim) (see mld's thread in the funhouse) use bigger holes all the way through the shisha use 1/2 an exotica broken in 2you should be fine

Like the first time I got f line Root Beer it took well over 24 hours. The one I got from my Buddy for the trade we have, it only took 8. Some flavors can only take a couple of hours. I go more by smell then time. Once you are able to stir it and the flavor smell stays the same for a least an hour, then it is ready.yes +3 on the how to by mdl. That is the only way I pack mine now. Great results every time. Edited February 5, 2008 by Snoopy1966
Bulldog_916
Well, I got it to smoke really well. Let it acclimate a little longer and poked some more holes. I like the texture of the smoke. But I'm not exactly diggin the flavor. Something tells me the soda is better left in the bottle. I'm about to put a trade thread up if anyone is interested. EvansLight
Ill say that there are some Tangiers flavors that make me cough no matter what. And before yall say "YOU WERE SMOKING IT WRONG!!" I've even had a guy who smokes nothing but tangiers pack the bowl, and get it going, and it was going perfect for him. When i went for it it itched the back of my throat making me cough.I wanna say it has something to do with either the flavorings he uses in the tobacco, or its the style of tobacco it is. I don't remember what style his is, its been to long, but i know it starts with a G XDSo, if you swear you got is going perfectly but there is something strange making you cough, it might damn well be the tobacco
Geiseric
Bulldog, I posted on this earlier, but it seems to me orange soda smokes much better with very little acclimation, as compared to any other tangiers flavor(flavor-wise, the smoke is more intense, then). It has a very tangy flavor then, which it seems to lose after acclimation.BTW, never, ever try snozzberry. I tried it for the hell of it, to simply see if "the snozzberry tastes like snozzberry!", if you will. Apparently, snozzberry tastes like green pepper pureed with ASS. Bulldog_916
I smoked it with only a few hours acclimation, and it was hard to smoke. I coughed hard until the acclimation time was upped to 8 hours. Then I was able to smoke it well without coughing. Even without the acclimation, I have a feeling I still wouldnt dig the flavor. I was hopeful that with only a little acclimation time, my results would be similar to yours, but it doesnt seem so. Weather is quite a bit drier than it has been lately, so that may be a part of the issue. I'm just kind of ehh about the flavor.

Hell i love tangiers, the licorice flavor is friggin awesome, and if it was easier to manage the heat on it i would smoke it often, but im a lazy fat bugger so i tend to stick to AF and the like. Bulldog_916
I have a feeling I'll like the Brambleberry more than anything. I just have to get through the 24+ hour acclimation period. Ugh.
