cartercdad
so i have a question about wind covers. are they really worth it? i now have a orion III from social smoke and i love it. smokes great. but i was wondering if it would be worth it to use a wind cover. i did not get one, but thinking about it. can someone post up their opinions on it. and what it actually does. i smoke in the house and not outside so i dont see a use for it unless i will get killer amounts of smoke from using one.thanksEric
staygone
Wind covers cover the wind from knocking over the coals and stuff. I use one when the coals are gettin low, keeps more heat situated on the bowl. Also if a party is too rough, it's good to have extra coal protection. If I were you, I'd invest in one.-QM

thecoalition
i have a large taj wind cover which fits over most bowls. it has some trouble on the med. and large. tang. phunnels with 2 exoticas on it. but i fixed that by taking 2 or 3 unlit pieces and resting them on the ash tray with the cover on them to give it like and inch lift. I'll snap a pic tonight when I smoke
willbb123
we didnt use a wind cover when we first started, then the hooka got knocked over and we broke the bowl. Now we use the wind cover, it keeps the heat in and protects the bowl
Eifah
So if it's windy out, adding the wind cover heats up the bowl or cools it off?
jfaltous
QM's got it right... the windcover is really useful when your coals are running low, but not low enough to be worth tossing and replacing. Throw it on there and it makes a small oven, keeps heat levels high and more evenly distributed.

hookah hippie
The wind cover is quite a useful tool to have when you are smoking. Not only does it stop the wind from blowing coals of your bowl when it windy. But the main reason for its usefulness is how it aids in heat management. It allows me to add just a little extra heat if needed because it is metal and gets heated up by the coals and also I can easily remove to drop the temp slightly. Very useful I have one that I bought for about $10 fits over all my bowls
gaia.plateau
They're invaluable for conveniently getting a bowl going good without burning the baccy, or having to move coals around. Also, you know. Good for covering against wind.
erufiku
To all the people burning themselves... grab it near the bottom? Don't know how hot yours get but works fine for me...
